Angry Kenwood Excelon KAC-X501F actin up. help please

I have an older kenwood excelon KAC-X501f 4 channel amp from 2001. I have 2 mb quart components running on it and it all works fine untill i turn it up the volume at the head unit, or turn up the gain on the amp. but the thing is, the amp will cut out, and then come back on and cut out and come back on, etc etc( its like it cuts off because it wants to go into protect mode, but it doesnt, it just stops powering the speakers but turns back on). i dont really know whats going on. i am pretty knowledgeable with car audio, but i am puzzled on this. i checked my ground and its not loose. oh yeah, the amp doesnt loose power or turn off the whole time, it just stops powering the speakers.

thanks on any help...
Blake

I'm not sure if that was sarcastic or not..... but I'll give you my .02 anyway (could be worth more to you if it fixes ur problem....)

Are your gains set properly? As in, with a DMM (digital multi-meter)?

also, check your power wire and your fuse, i think with that amp you might want to run 4 guage. also what is the impediance coming from the speakers, if its running at say 1ohm, the amp will shut down
