Infinity Kappa 62.7i Fit
Wondering if anyone can tell me about the fit of the Infinity Kappa 62.7i in the door panel of 03 S10 regular cab? Specifically I'm wondering about the tweeter height and the factory grill, is there interference? Thanks for your time.
It would be this speaker. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...08627I&g=52000 Last edited by GearHead_1 : 06-24-2008 at 09:43 PM. |

Re: Infinity Kappa 62.7i Fit
I had to cut my factory grille for the 63.7's to fit in my 01 blazer. I believe they stick out about 1 1/8 inches where as the 62.9 (newer model) is 13/16 of an inch.

Re: Infinity Kappa 62.7i Fit
I think the 62.7's will be close after looking at mine again (they should be about 5/16s shallower than the 63.7's). And since the tweeter is smaller it might just work. FWIW I have the 63.7's and 52.7's hooked up to a Hifonics zxi6406 putting out 170rmsx4 at 2 ohms (probably over-rated) and I'm not too impressed with the infinity's. The highs are kind of harsh and the mids are pretty weak. I would have just gone with a nice component set if I did it all over again.

Re: Infinity Kappa 62.7i Fit
Jake, thanks for the picture. Did you look into modifying the Infinity grills to fit the door panel when you installed these speakers?

Re: Infinity Kappa 62.7i Fit
I have some 6.5 ref's in the doors, and I cut the factory grille out and used the Infinity ones. I can get a picture if you want, the Kappa's tweeters stick out a bunch more than the Refs

Re: Infinity Kappa 62.7i Fit
Just thought I would post a follow up since I posted the question. These fit just great using only factory parts. The only modification was re-drilling the factory enclosure. I had a gift certificate through Crutchfield and decided to use it on these speakers. Of course they send you all the bells and whistles that makes them Crutchfield. This includes a new set of enclosures. I could have used these but it was more work to cut the rivets of the factory ones than to re-drill them. I believe the 3 ways would not have fit using factory grills. The sound is what I expected it to be using no external amp. We put the 4X6 Kappa's in the dash with a set of Bass Blockers to go with the 6.5's in the doors. I'm pleased and so is my son (it's his ride). I think he'll still opt to put a smaller self powered sub in the truck. It doesn't take much to fill a regular cab with sound.

Re: Infinity Kappa 62.7i Fit
Yeah, I'll see if my son won't take a picture. It doesn't appear to be anything special you just see the same speaker you have pictured sitting behind the factory grill. By the way there is about 1/4" - 3/8" clearance between the grill and the tweeter.

Re: Infinity Kappa 62.7i Fit
These are my 63.7's in my 98 hombre. the doors never came with speaker pods, so i had to get them out of another second gen and bolt them in.
I didn't need to cut any holes, since they fit in pretty snugly. They were a tighter fit than i'd want them to be. The fit was much better in my 95, there was much more slack between the factory grille. |
