Re: how do I figure out airspace???
geometry? formula for volume is:
length x width x height don't forget to compensate for material thickness and displacement of the sub itself. or you could do it the easy way and use an online box calculator. |

Re: how do I figure out airspace???
that formula only works for common cube shaped enclosures, not wedges, cylinders, or other odd shapes... use the link avnchris posted, its the shit, i use it for every box i build, and it automatically componsates for enclosure thickness. |

Totally just added that site to my favorites. The RF site is okay but half the time is down for some reason.
Oh wait, it's RF, nevermind. |

Re: how do I figure out airspace???
ok well a wedge is just a triangle right? area of a triangle: 1/2 x length x width (cause two triangles equals a rectangle) then just multiply that by the depth and you get volume area of a circle: πr2 and just multiply that by your depth again to get volume of a cylinder and for odd shaped just take a profile and divide it into simple shapes like a rectangle and a triangle. find the respective volumes and add them together. for odd things such as fiberglass boxes you just need to get a material to displace the interior space and measure it that way. example is fill it with packing peanuts. dump those out into a box and measure the depth. do your simple geometry and you have and idea of the airspace. i'm not knocking computer programs, but you NEED to know what the program is actually doing for you. i took geometry in 8th grade and now i'm going into my second year of college. it's one of the few math courses that i can consistently use. wish i could say the same about calculus ![]() edit - the squared didn't come out right. area of a circle should read "pi times radius squared" Last edited by Big_Bake : 07-26-2008 at 08:25 PM. |

Re: how do I figure out airspace???
i use progams too, saves time but it isnt hard, HxWxD in inches divide it by 1728, if you have a wedge you just add the 2 sides together and divide by 2 (average), it isnt that hard

Re: how do I figure out airspace???
i too know those formulas. i can do advanced geometry and trig, but when i'm designing, those programs are easy as ****. plus, i was pointing out that the formula big bake gave, was only for cube shapes.

Re: how do I figure out airspace???
haha i'm not picking on you guys. programs that do shit for you is so nice. i just like working things out on paper to make it feel like i'm more involved in building a box,
and F trig in A. i hated having to know all those inverses and shit. |
