hooking sound to alarm

I have power locks that were put in after purchasing my car and it only flashes the parking lights and locks the doors. is there a way to hook up like an aftermarket beep to it? so it will beep like a regular alarm? or at least hook it up to the horn to honk. or a aftermarket horn?

You will have to pull your underdash and find the brain unit for the keyless entry, some systems have a siren or horn output wire on them.

If you have the make and model of the keyless entry system I can tell you if its possible or not. By finding that brain that info will be on there.

All you would have to do is run the single siren wire from the brain to the red wire on the siren and then just ground the black wire under the hood somewhere.

Re: hooking sound to alarm

The wire should be there...its probably not hooked up. You could install an alarm siren, air horns...etc.

Re: hooking sound to alarm

With that system you can do either horn honk output or use a regular DEI siren like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/1-DEI-Directed-514N-Siren-viper-python-clifford-avital_W0QQitemZ170252583187QQcmdZViewItem?hash=it em170252583187&_trkparms=72%3A552%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A 2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Either option you go with you will have to use a relay which is simple. Take the brown wire from the brain unit and that will go to pin 85, constant 12+ volts to pins 86 & 87, then the red wire from the siren to pin 30.

Black wire from siren to ground, will chirp once when doors are locked and twice when unlocked. Also will sound for 30 secs. if you use the panic mode on it.

If you still have the installation booklet, follow the diagram on page 6. Pick up the DEI siren from eBay or your local car audio/alarm shop if your looking for the beep type. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Edit:

Reason for the use of the relay is because the signal from the brain is negative and the siren or the horn will need a postive signal, so the relay acts as a switch and converts the negative signal to postive when you press you arm/disarm button or even panic mode.

Yeah you have to buy a relay, you can get those almost anywhere. You will need a 30/40 amp relay. You can order them online or pick one up from your local circuit city or best buy if you have one near you.

Or I can send you one just pay shipping.

Re: hooking sound to alarm

i believe the horn honk output on a 711t only works after you press the lock button twice...much like a stock unit..and i am pretty sure there is no way to change that....but it has been a few years since i installed a 711t...

Re: hooking sound to alarm

alright....i went to my car specialty shop and they said the horn will be annoying and loud if hooked up. and the siren will sound like crap. they had the relay but i didnt get it cuz the guy is a douche. he said theres a beeping siren i could get but he would have to order it for around 30 bucks. I just want the sound like a toyota's alarm. a single beep when locking and a double beep when unlocking. HELP

again like i said before i dont think it has that output...the last one i did i remember it not honking the horn when i did it and it only did it when you hit lock twice in a row...and nothing for unlock... your only option that i can think of is to tie it into the out put from the parking light but then you have to isolate it from the trucks lights and it will have a longer pulse

Re: hooking sound to alarm

it has a horn honk output. it sends one pulse through when locking and 2 when unlocking. it says so in my manual, and the car place said so too. its just not hooked up cuz circuit city sucks at what they do.

You are correct on the horn honk output, and circuit city doesnt suck just depends on the installer. I worked at circuit city for 3 years and the horn honk cost more to hook up its not part of the install price, you could of slipped the guy like $10 and he probably would of done it on the side like we used to do.

But anyways I told you what you need to do for the alarm to have sound its up to you what you do with that info and what everyone else comes in here to chime in about.

This will be my last post in this thread, good luck man!

Re: hooking sound to alarm

ok guys i bought a DEI 514N Soft-Chrip Siren. I only have a few questions though. 1..I cant get it open to cut wires on the back side. it says to cut wires to get rid of certain tones. and 2...i should be able to ground it and hook the + to my brain unit correct?

the output from the brain is negative so no you have hook up the red to constant.....

this guy pretty much covered everything you need to know...

most 'horn' out puts are pulsed so the horn honks, doesnt stay on the whole time the unit is sounding...some units have a feature to turn the output to constant..

and most horn wires in vehicles are negative...
