Got some new subs need help with an amp

Hey guys just picked up 2 JL 12W3V2-D4 for $50 WOOT! Seemed like a damn good deal to me. Now I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to a good amp to power these. I'm more than likely gonna stick em in a ported box and as far as wiring and what not goes I am open to suggestions.

Re: Got some new subs need help with an amp

Oh sorry I guess I kinda worded that wrong, I meant wiring for the subs. Paralell, series, Mono off the amp etc. And why in the world would I need a 1200 watt amp, the RMS for these subs is only 300 watts.

Re: Got some new subs need help with an amp

depends on the amp you get, but usually bridged is the best. 300 is the rms not he peak for the driver. 1200watts divided by 2= 600 peak for the amp and divided by 2 drivers = 300 watts for each.

alpine makes a nice 600 watt amp, mrp-650 i believe, i used to have it with a couple type s's, worked great, and you measure subs based on rms not peak btw

Re: Got some new subs need help with an amp

it only takes 100watts to move a sub. most subs are underrated

Id say if you have the cash go with the 500/1 slash series amp from JL my buddy had his 500/1 on his 2 w3 12s and it was the cleanest sounding setup ive heard...

Re: Got some new subs need help with an amp

Well I can wire em down to 1 ohm no problem, I was just wondering if this was a good amp. I've heard Hifonics subs before but never seen or heard anything about their amps. One more question... If I wire these TWO subs down to 1 ohm and then wire them into the 600w X 1 channel on the amp, that means that each sub will get 300w each right?

Re: Got some new subs need help with an amp

correct if it has two inputs that just makes it easier for slower ppl to wire in without blowing stuff and the amp will bridge them internaly.

bridging that amp will not turn it into a 1200 watt amp, if that's what you are saying.

that's a nice little amp for those subs if they're only 300rms each. Should match up pretty well. just wire em in parallel and drop it to 1 ohm like you said. Good luck!

Agreed. will also run 500w rms regardless of the ohm load (1.5 to 4) I always liked the signal sensing to eliminate the turn on. Makes life a lot easier. less wires is always better.
It will SLAM your w3's in a vented box.
