Face plate wont illuminate

Hey i have an alpine CDA-9807 face plate. it was in the truck when i bought it and it has never really stayed lit up. well now it has gotten on my nerves to the point where i want to do something about it. i would get another one but i discovered that this model has been discontinued. so basically my question is is there anything i can do to fix it? thanks.

I was gonna suggest buying a used face plate off of eBay. Sometimes you can find them pretty cheap on there. After looking though, they're selling kinda high. From the looks of the face plate itself, it seems like a lower end model and wouldn't be worth putting that kinda money into.

Not sure how you could fix the original?

Re: Face plate wont illuminate

you can take it apart and replace the bulbs or check for cold solder joints about the leads of the bulbs...but most newer radios use leds so that would lead me to think of bad solder joints or what ever processor controls the lights may be bad...

about 10 years ago that is all i did all day long was fix radios... i would get alpines in all day long with bad solder joints around lights or switches...its as simple as looking for a crack around teh solder joint then resoldering it with a good flux core solder...

but it all depends on how old it is if it has bulbs or leds...and if it has bulbs they may be 6 volt bulbs...or 12 volt bulbs...

if you have faith in yourself take it apart...remove the two screws and the rest should be small clips..like pry it apart with your fingernails...then pay attention to how it comes apart...then look for cracks in the solder around the joints ...

Re: Face plate wont illuminate

A friend of mine has a Pioneer with the same problem, his was just a matter of a bad connection between the hu and the faceplate. See if there's any wiggle room when it's on, maybe it's worn itself loose to the point that it won't stay connected anymore?
