Extra Wires To My CD Player HELP!

I bought an 88 s10 from a slightly uneducated person who didnt wire the aftermarket cd player properly. I went back through and corrected his mistakes as far as the speaker wires themselves. Instead of having the constant power supply from the battery it was only connected to the ignition so i had to cut what i think is the original power wire to the stock radio and connect it to the cd player. In doing so that leaves a brown wire which ran into the same plug as the hot wire and a gray wire which ran with the accessories and ground wire. If im not mistaken the brown is the dimmer wire and the gray is the illumination wire. Does this seem right/okay or have i hooked something up incorrectly? Also the left dash speaker is about 1/10 as loud as the rest, ive check my wires, could it just be the speaker itself?

The hot wire was connected to the same plug in as the extra brown wire before the plug was cut off, is that still just an extra? I know that usually with a hot you have a ground... but the ground(black wire) was with the gray and yellow wire
