Alpine type r subs

I know the type R sub is Alpine's SPL sub but how are they when it comes to SQ?

Uhm, people who own them may disagree with me, but I feel like they are a ported only sub. I have heard the difference between ported and sealed on those subs and ported is like a whole diffrent world.

I also think they are more geared towards spl, then sq. But, theyre not the worst sub I have ever heard when it comes to clarity.

Re: Alpine type r subs

They're not too bad in a decent box. Heck of a lot better than a lot of other subs in it's price range.

Re: Alpine type r subs

Thanks.

I can get a pair of the 2 ohm DVC for 200 shipped..

When only comparing the Alpine type r vs type x. The type x is their SQ sub. Would their be a big difference in SQ between the subs?

I agree 100% with this statement.

I've gone from sealed to ported with these subs, and I will never go back sealed. Even ported, these subs don't sound bad at all, and will get much louder.

I'd definitely recommend the Type R's.

Re: Alpine type r subs

I have the type Rs and have heard type X and a few others, and the R's are definitely more geared to bang rather than sound clear. For the price, you can't beat them tho, and I wouldn't trade them for anything right now

I agree on the ported > sealed, with ANY sub IMO

Now, 6 years ago, their products seemed to be ten times better. But things have changed since then, and Im willing to bet that they changed their manufacturing and assembly to China, since most companies have.

Would I say that products being built in America are better? Well, no, not neccesarly, since products can only be as good as the design and the plant/process management, but take a look at the employees of China, their pay scale, and their treatment at the work place. I think that explains why products, in general, have had a tendency to go down hill and become more "disposable".

Not true, really. Now, if a sub is designed only to be in a ported application, then that statement is true. In general, a proper porting can increase the effeciency, but sealed boxes have something to offer that ported boxes cant always do.

And to be honest, to port a box and large enough to make a flat response, is retarded. Most people dont have that much room in their vehicle, period.

Re: Alpine type r subs

type r and type x is like light and day. the type x is definately a clearer sub and not geared towards spl. however, they do bang. the type r is a very nice sub, well rounded and fairly adaptable. definately port it though, they don't seem to like sealed enclosures much...

Re: Alpine type r subs

Unless i can find a real good deal on the type x. I'll just get the 2 type r's I can get for $200 shipped.

What size box for ported? How many CF?

I also heard with the type x, they need alot of power. Dont think 600w would be enough...

Yeah I know 600 would be good for 1 type r. Actually would be a little over 700 with the amp I would be using.

If your willing to spend the money, then the type x is always a better sub, imo. But, honestly, there are subs out there that are cheaper and will sound "cleaner/clearer". Post up how much your willing to spend on subs and how many you want. The reviews on the titanic MKIII and HOs are very very good, and you may want to look into nabbing one or two of them.
