Re: Some Interior Paint

I've thought about that very same thing off and on for the past 7 months, that's how long this project has taken,.....what if it's too much?,...what if it looks tackey?, ...and I finally just said fvck it, I'm doin it, and if ends up lookin like shit, well at least I tried, I figure the outside of the truck is pretty tasteful, if not down right conservative, it needs something to really make it pop,...I think the interior should balance things out nicely

I did all the preliminary prep work, but I'm not the one painting it, ....I want it to look good,..lol,...I'm having a professional do it, Chad of Chad's Body Shop in New Troy, Mi is doing all of the seconary and final prep work and all of the paint, Chad's the man!

but I can tell you that took me months to take all the texture off all of those parts, the only parts that I didn't do the preliminary prep on was the dash, the door arm rests, console arm rest, and the oh shit handle for the dash, I had Chad do that stuff

You can't sand the dash very much, the plastic is pretty thin,...I believe he built it up with primer and sanded in between the layers until it was smooth, I will ask the next time I talk to him, I do know that he did not glass it

I hope he did more than just primer it... that foam stuff expands and contracts pretty easily... that paint won't last long if that's all he did...

I'm sure he did, he knows what he's doing,...I'm just guessing is all,....I'm not the expert,...I'll find out how he did it.

In the mean time, how would you do it?

Re: Some Interior Paint

Yeah, I'm hoping it's not a mistake, having the armrests done, but I've seen quite a few others do it so I guess it's an acceptable practice, if I fvckem up some how, then I guess they get upholstered,...and the dash is a bitch to get in and out, mostly the passenger side airbag, the dash grab handle and the passenger A/C vent, the rest isn't that bad

Saturday's the big day, I should have a nearly complete interior at that point, and yes, yes,..lotsa pics, I may start a new thread in projects, or members rides, not sure

Oh, and halloween colors, black and orange, is exactly what I'm going for, though that's where the halloween theme ends, no skulls, gobblins, or stuff like that, but lots of billet and tweed

Re: Some Interior Paint

Looks good, good luck with the arm rest... i've painted mine in the past a few times and since it's a soft material that gives in with small to good amounts of pressure from your arm there are a good chance of it cracking in the future if not almost immediately.... a good way to keep it perfect like that would be to fiberglass it then paint it so it's not soft anymore.... but your arm won't be as happy.

PM box is now empty, but if it's a question about the dash prep, or the prep of the other soft parts, the answer is, I don't know yet

Nice lookin man.. i'm currently fiberglassin my whole interior.. what did you do to prep the dash top for paint or did the shop just do that? i'm dirlling 1/8" holes all over it and putting a layer of resin.. then 1 layer of fiberglass over the hardened resin and then bondo and primer..

Yepp, and that's what I want, my interior was charcoal, and with the truck being black, it's just too dark, and everyone does blue and red, I've already had afew comments about glare off the dash on sunny days, so I guess I'll just keep a towel handy to put up on the dash when I'm driving into the direct sunlight

Re: Some Interior Paint

The best thing to do would be to get some estimates from body shops and upholsterers in your area, the $ amounts that I have won't match yours, because I'm having my stuff painted by a close friend of Subsonic kustomZ, (our Club),...but even with the discount,...it's very expensive, PM me if you need more info
