my 1st gen interior project
well i'm finally gettin around to workin on my interior.
i've gotten a few things done already: i got my hands on a '56 ford dash a few years ago, i've had it in the truck for about 2 years, just never finished it. i wrapped the headliner in suede, and the A-pillars. also layed down some carpet. i should be starting on the center console on sunday. guess i'll get to the pics this was about 2 years ago. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i finally wrapped it in suede over this past summer ![]() ![]() here it is in the truck right before Carlisle. ![]() then 2 weeks ago i put in the carpet ![]() ![]() i don't have any pics of the A-pillars or the headliner, i'll take some this weekend while i'm buildin the center console. enjoy |

Re: my 1st gen interior project
i wanted to do that too john, but if i did, it would have angled my gauges toward the headliner. i couldn't notch any higher into the dash for the column because my gauges sit so low. as it is i only have about a 1/2" between the top of the column and the bottom of my gauge bezel.

Re: my 1st gen interior project
so work began sunday on the center console. i had a fellow club member come over who builds cabinets with all his wood working stuff. so basically he was workin on it and i was the tool bitch.
worked on it for about 5 hours. didn't get as far as we'd liked, but the sides are done. so enough talk, here's the pics. ![]() ![]() in front of the shifter there'll be my gauges, and the radio. up top between the seats will probably be a 10" JL Audio woofer. then behind the shifter will go my switches for my bags, the comp, the headlights, the engine start, and 2 cup holder(a must). |

Re: my 1st gen interior project
use the existing mounting locations and make your new dash line up with them or make your own.

Re: my 1st gen interior project
if you are putting the tabs on the firewall I would weld or bolt. No glass. If you are talking about the dash. Then yes.

Re: my 1st gen interior project
thanks for the complimetns guys. i wish we got alittle more done but we wanted to get both pieces perfect before we moved on. so it was constantly in the truck, out of the truck, then sand it then back in the truck.
83: because my dash is metal i was able to just weld tabs to the dash, and match then up with tabs i welded on the cab. if you have a fiberglass dash, you could make a tab out of wood, and fiberglass that to the dash. then cover the entire tab in fiberglass for extra strength and drill a hole through it. either way your probably gonna have to weld a tab or two to the cab. hope that cleared it up for ya |

Re: my 1st gen interior project
UPDATES!!!!!!
this is my buddy JUDD. he builds cabinets for a living so i figured he'd be all the help i need. it's also good practice for when he builds the center console in his BD'd dime. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() still got along way's go to, but everythings gettin mocked up first, obviously. you get a pretty good idea of what it's gonna look like. i do have an opinion question though..... should i put like a 5 1/2" component speaker on either side of the console in that under the dash area?????? agreed, speakers in the console would cause him so have to redo the whole thing. im sure he has some plans for his door panels i would put them there.

Re: my 1st gen interior project
thanks for the compliments guys
i do have an idea for the door panels. i wanted a completely flat panel with black vabric and silver vertical stitching. almost hotrodish. i'd put the speakers in the door, but the truck never had them to begin with so i'd have to take the door off to drill the holes, then run wires through. i'd rather have that clean door jam look instead. |

Re: my 1st gen interior project
LOL. you have no idea the PITA it was to mount those seats after the BD. before i BD'd it i had the sliders on, only one of the stock bolts lined up so all i did was drilled 3 other holes, and threw some huge bolts through. ya gotta make sure you use big washers to disperse the surface area of the bolt so just incase you get in an accident, the bolt won't pull through the floor. after the BD i removed the sliders to drop it down an 1" or so and just made my own brackets. hope that helps. |
