Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!
Both my buddies' 98+ the whole headlight panel lights up (three knob positions plus the knob itself, and the dome override text as well). I pulled the panel and sure enough my LED bulb looked toasted so tomorrow I'm off to the stealership to get a replacement (it is a completely different socket and looks one piece).

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!
Stupid question but what are we all referring to as 'Idiot' lights. Also, What are the exact socket type of and number of lights of: The dash cluster and all the smaller guages within it; the HVAC controls and head light controls?
There seams to be an aweful lot of confusion I think when people go to their website and the bulbs listed on their site for a particular car do not match the ones described within all of these posts. Another question I'm sure people have is how to figure out the forward voltage to know what led and resistor combo is necessary to be soldered in for those bults not providing a socket for attachment. Thanks |

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!
rlith, do you have a tutorial for how you did that is it the same basic thing as the Gen 2s? I want to make sure I buy the right LEDs the first time, and that the process isnt too complicated. If it involves soldering Im pretty much screwed.
Thanks |

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!
Well, as that didnt really answer my question I'll assume the process, equipment and bulbs are the same. Thanks for the idea though; should turn out nice.

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!
The tutorial you posted is for 94 and up dashes. It does not say nor show anything in specific to the 82-93 years, so it did not actually answer my question. I asked if it was the same procedure and parts or not for the FIRST Gen dashes, and I was refered back to a post that only talks about Second Gen stuff. That is not what I asked for, hence the reason you technically didnt answer my question. Perhaps I wasnt specific in that I was wanting a First Gen LED Tutorial. Maybe Im just simpleminded and need it spelled out for me, but if that's what it takes to make my dash look like I want it to, Im fine with that.

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!
Gotcha.... Yes, same amount of bulbs of each type for the 1st gen clusters... 5 194's and 10 socketed T1's, 3 unsocketed T1's for HVAC

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!
Rlith, how many bulbs would I need to do the gauge cluster, 4x4 controls and HVAC in a 94 S-10 with tach? Really, I just need to know what the three 4x4 bulbs are but a complete bulb list would be nice. Also, rlith and any others who have done this, did you take the orange paint off the needles or did u just leave them?

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!
rlith, Do the needles show up the color of the LEDs or can u tell they are orange(when the LEDs are lit.) I realize the pic should show this but it's pretty crappy quality, just wondering if you recommend removing the paint and going to white like some other guys suggested. Also, the white LEDs at www.superbrightleds.com, you said something about them being clear but they have hyperwhites or something like that. What I'm asking is if I use blues on the tach and speedo then whites on the voltage, oil press etc... it will be blue fading into to pure white light correct?

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!
This question is for anyone who knows: How are the LEDS layed out, like does one LED light up both the tach and speedo, then one LED for each small gauge and one LED for each idiot light? Also, what are all the specific idiot lights, I'm thinking of putting red in some of the more important ones such as SES light and so on. I'd like to know what they all are so I can decide exactly what color I want for each one before I order them.
BTW: 94 S-10 4x4 with tach. |

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!
1 led for each idiot, 1 led for the speedo or speedo/tach 1 led per small gauge (gas, volt, oil, etc)

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!
seriously guys, if you pull your speedo, you will see exactly how many idiot lights you need and where to put what colours. it's not as hard as people are making it sound.
