Question Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!

Also does anyone knows if the dash lights would be the same for 2000 ford ranger with the v6? My friend wants to know how to do it on his ford and i would assume its basicly the same but we haven't ripped his dash apart yet. thanks

Too bad its a ford i don't care for them.

I have an Envoy with White needles, are there lights behind the needles? I want to have my needles glow white, and the rest of the cluster red. Let me know if this is possible. Thanks fellas.

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!

Superbrightleds sells the T1.5, I'm probably going to replace all my gauge lights with the LED T1.5's they sell but i'm not sure if they will work or if I need to take the stock bulbs out and replace those with individual LED's instead...

Yeah it's possible but it will be a fade... since there aren't individual lights behind each needle... there is a piece of plastic that routes the lights from each bulb... so there is plastic that routes light to the needle and different parts of the gauge cluster also...so there really isn't any way to just make the gauges light up the color you want without the rest lighting up that color... unless you did a new face gauge install... since new face gauges have there own built in lighting and then you can make the needles the color you want and only the needs will be that color at night.

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!

Without referring me back to previous post which don't completely explain to ME, can someone tell me exactly how many of each type of bulb would I need for a 2001 auto with tach? Also to include headlight and a/c controls. Thanks

The amount of bulbs is explicitly specified on the 1st post page. Look towards the end, you will find it.

Well if you look at the pics that Em Tea posted on the 2nd page, the gauge cluster appears to have 6 bulbs and the a/c controls look to have 4? I don't know why you keep referring people to your previous post when it seems that many people are confused.

If anyone else has done this mod and would be willing to give the correct amount/type of bulbs, it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!

On my 02 blazer, I have 6 bulbs to my gauge cluster... I don't know how many bulbs it is for my a/c but I could find out and let you know. I ordered 1 T1.5 LED light from superbrightled's to see if it will work... i'll let you guys know how it goes...otherwise I will be buying 6 194 LED's to replace the bulbs.

Hey this might help Go to the junk yrd and find a 95-98 Mustang and pull the light sockets out of the cluster. They use regular 194 bulbs without having to soilder anything.

That sounds great, please keep me updated. I will be installing a glassed passenger airbag in the next couple of weeks and want to do the bulbs at the same time. I drive my truck daily and don't want to keep tearing it apart if I don't have to.

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!

The more led's in each bulb the brighter it will be. When I bought mine I took apart everything to see what type of bulb and how many were needed, and then I ordered the correct sizes with the most possible led's in them. I think it turned out well, nice and bright and very easy to see everything.

Re: Convert Your Cluster & Control lights to LED's How-to!

I believe you will need 6 of the wide angle LED's... i just started replacing mine last night... and noticed a few things. When you pull out the metal clips that hold the original bulbs in the socket, you have to keep those clips for when you put the led's in. Also you have to bend the LED wires to the side so that when you push them into the sockets with the metal clips in place they touch the metal clips to get power after being installed again. And be careful taking the metal clips and original bulbs out of those sockets... the bulbs break easy, at least the bottoms do and they are sharp as hell along with the metal clips that hold them in. I'm going to plug my gauges in and make sure it works right. Oh yeah and i busted one of my LED's wires when i was moving it to the side so i'm down 1 LED for my gauge cluster.... oh well lol.

LOL I got done painting them today and they actually match closer to the PRND321 and odometer then coming out blue. Oh well. Guess I'll get LEDs eventually. And some new needles..... but at least I got the brushed aluminum gauge cover in there. All it took was a nice gash at the top of my thumb with a utility knife!! arg!!! oh well it looks good though. be better when I get leds and new needles anyone know if these needles would work in our trucks gauges?
