Complete Dashboard removal 98-04

ok i want to have the fiberglass dashboard look. at first i thought of just painting a dash cover and slapping it on there but i doubt it would look half as nice if i just took the time to take the dash out.

so what im asking is there anything i should watch out for? like how do i safely remove the air bag and do i have to drop the stering wheel? if not will the car be drivable without the dash? ive never done this before so any input would be nice. im waiting for my friend to get back from india in a few weeks...he did this once on a older s10. i just wanna be prepared for what im getting myself into...i know almost nothing about removing the dash. i just know i want the fiberglass dash look because its amazing. any input plz. thanks.

im off to canada til monday so i won't even get to read replys til monday ugh..

no its not i had mine out this winter and i had to drop the column to get the dash out but the dash does no hold up the steering column bu the wholr thing is pretty straight foreward and a word of advice would to be change the heater core while it is out since they are prone to going and to replace it you need to take out the dash anyway

but to answer your question you will need to keep all the gauges and airbags pluged in and it should drive

wrong...it is held by a brace mounted to the firewall....

and yeah you can drive it no problem...you need to remove the harness from the dash to make it work...and plug it all back up...

Re: Complete Dashboard removal 98-04

I've got my dash out right now and Im fiberglassing the entire thing. old one is a bit too bulky and no style. All I needed is a hand full of zip ties and a little re routing of the wiring and all is good. Good luck on the rebuild. Where's the pics??
