98+ gauge cluster with aftermarket gauges
Wondering if anyone has pics and a quick "how you did it". Throwing around a couple ideas in my head and thought I would see what others are doing

Re: 98+ gauge cluster with aftermarket gauges
I'm talking about installing aftermarket gauges such as autometer in the place of the stock cluster

Re: 98+ gauge cluster with aftermarket gauges
that looks real good man what is that panel you are using to mount them?
i was thinking of fiberglassing a panel then cut out for the gauges are you making it to where you can snap the clear back over the gauges? i want to make it look as factory as possible |

Re: 98+ gauge cluster with aftermarket gauges
Ive got a very thin piece of lexan to go back over front, it will probably get glued in.
the back is thick acrylic(1/2" maybe), im trying to decide if i should put LEDs around it to make it light up, or paint it and be done. Should be real clean and factory when im done |

Re: 98+ gauge cluster with aftermarket gauges
meh, who needs dummy lights
![]() I will probably just use some LED's, maybe one on each side of oil for blinker, and one between tac&spedo for hibrights |

Re: 98+ gauge cluster with aftermarket gauges
give me an opinion on thisIm bagging the truck too. Do they make mini air pressure gauges? I could put two over the spedo and two over the tac ![]() Id have to find the perfect size and black faces to do it right |

i dont think i would try to put more gauges in it
it would look too crowded to me i think its fine just the way you have it |

Re: 98+ gauge cluster with aftermarket gauges
Yeah I just measured, the gauges would have to be less then an inch in diameter.
There is no way I could get em to look right and not be overcrowded. And they would be to small to read easily Im just gonna put normal ones where the heat/ac controls go..... |

Re: 98+ gauge cluster with aftermarket gauges
haha we have like the same ideas
i am fiberglasssing all the vents and holes in my bezel except the headunit location and cutting three holes where the a/c controls used to be for air guages lol Last edited by draggindime072010 : 11-08-2009 at 02:40 AM. |

Re: 98+ gauge cluster with aftermarket gauges

Re: 98+ gauge cluster with aftermarket gauges
on my v8 swap we cut the cluster apart, took the clear face off and put new gauges in the overlay. oddly enough 2 1/6 gauges slide right into the cut outs.. add a couple idiot lights for turn signals and high beam indicator and your good to go. we just took a peice of plexi and painted it black to cover the rest of the holes as i dont have a speedo or the rest of the idiot lights anymore due to the lack of a computer.
