Re: s10 conversion
It would be cheaper and eaisier just to sell it and buy a 4WD. but if you must its possable.it would be best to get a donor truck.

Re: s10 conversion
SAS aint that hard on a 2wd vs a 4x4. With the 4x4 about all your starting out with is the transfer case. With both your ripping out the whole front and replacing it. With the 2wd you will just have to swap to a 4x4 tranny with a t-case.

Re: s10 conversion
There are a number of different ways to do it. Some methods cost more money and effort. You could also use a divorced transfer case and keep your transmission, but you will have some driveshaft issues if your truck has a shorter wheelbase.

Re: s10 conversion
the 2wd front is coil springs and 4wd is torsion bars. *IF* you wanted to keep the front control arms etc this wouldnt work, nor would 4wd control arms fit on a 2wd. so you would have to
1. get a trans with transfer case. also a 4wd driveshaft (transfer case will take room making the 2wd rear driveshaft on a 2wd to long) 2. cut the frame in front of the firewall and graft (weld) a 4wd front frame section on. 3. add the torsion bar crossmember if you aren't going to do a solid front axle conversion 4. possibly change your oil pan (2wd and 4wd are different) 5. cut a hole in the floor for the 4wd shifter or on newer models you would have to add the electronic switch all in all ya its possible... but way to time consuming and $$$$ making a 2wd into a 4wd would be a pain in the @ss.... making a 4wd into a 2wd.... simple and cheaper |
