Re: S-10's at PISMO DUNES, PLANS FOR SUMMER

I know that there are some "Dimes" tracking this event on dezert dimes
Redirecting...

I have a 99 ZR2 Blazer and 00 S10 in a pre "prerunner phase" build up. I really want to go, so I will probably sport the ZR2 due to the sand.

Does anyone have directions? I will be coming from barstow (CA) Any help?????

Re: S-10's at PISMO DUNES, PLANS FOR SUMMER

hell yah we camping out, I got 2 tents so you can use 1 of em

however is firework allowed?? I got plenty! lol, I've been working few things out with my prerunner and trying them out on sands(luckily got sand/dirt trails nearby my house in 5 miles lol)

however, those who hasn't driven on sand with 2wd/prerunner

do not go SLOW until we al lpark and what not, the 4 wheeler will tow us out if you get stuck, happens 2 me at Glamis few times

does anyone need cheap tires? any size/brand, because we have 5,6mexican tire shops that sells A LOT tires for very cheap

aka

2 almost brand new, 32x11.50x15 BFG A/T for $70 together

Ridge Runner 31x10.50x15 for $20 each with 50% tread left

Im gonna try scoop up 33x12.50x15 sand/baja tires for my prerunner in rear and use 31s bfg a/t on my rear of minitruck(Im sure it'll get stuck few times, giving ya'll heads up LOL)

For real? I really want to check it out. My buddy goes occasionally and he has fun, but he has 4-wheelers and I don't. All I've got is my 'bagged mini. I want to get a 4-wheeler around the turn of the year so I can hit the dunes tho.

Re: S-10's at PISMO DUNES, PLANS FOR SUMMER

Still rolling out there, waiting for rocker arms to arrive so I put it in the minitruck and new inline fuel pump then get it running

check local atv/quad/dirtbike shop for flags

and go on ebay for the 3ftx5ft flags, any will work as long it has 2 metal clip hole for attachment, I used thick zip tie and hold it up, if you use normal zip tie and going over 35, it'll start breakin off over and over

you can also go local swap meet, they should have flags, I was gonna buy 4 more flags

also, you guys could buy tow hook from s10warehouse since its $15+shipping or pick up locally, any s-series tow hook works fine, I drill and bolt mine up yesterday

my friend and I gonna buy beers and meats(I'll have mine marinated with 1 as dr.p and other with crown royal, water jugs

not much, dont wanna waste time shitting lol

I'll bring a deck or 2 of cards, we could play poker, blackjack, texas poker, whatever we play,

Im bringing my mini charcoal grill, able put 2-4meats depending on size of it, the grill is about 2feet width and 1ft length to cook

those who bringing cooler wbeer cans/bottle, best way 2 keep em cool and last longer is to put them all in 1st with little spacing in between then put ice on it then more beers/meat, its ideal to do this 1 day before the trip, so cooler stays cold already and won't melt when on the drive, keep it under shade with towel over it to lessen any heat on it

I planned on doing that BUT I use hitch ball so far no problem, Im sure its safe just as putting tow hook on front, I planned on bracing the frame for less twist. I drilled and tap mine into frame on front, so you can do same in rear

I thought we could do all event alltogether since we could do these on our own or few other people, not everyday we get together to trail/offroad/have fun so might as well do all together.

Im off wed/thurs, so I'll check out local for towhooks before ordering another set from s10warehouse, look for baja tires to buy and some more bfgs

those went to pismo beach, is it better to add weight(if so, how much) in rear, or just have nothing in rear but tire or 2?

Im bringing tow straps, tow hook, drill, bolts, fresh wooden boards(strongest from home depot, i dont know brand but says the strongest because I asked for that), floor jack, some tools

Re: S-10's at PISMO DUNES, PLANS FOR SUMMER

I usually air my tires down to about 15PSI and im good. My car is gay so it doesnt have any took hooks, nor do i have a hitch. Be careful of towing with hitch bals, they can slip off causing injurys

its basicallly BYO-EVERYTHING, i cant expect it to be organized enought to have someone responsible for food, and another for tents.
Besides, i wouldnt want to have to rely on someone either,
I'm sure there will be firewood, and im sure ppl will bring quads/bikes ect.
they sell flags on the beach there for $25 --bring zip ties just in case, or i stick the flag between talegate-window-and fender
all the quad rental places on the street sell flags.

as far as trail rides as a group, first off, there arnt any trails, its kinda a free-for-all out there, but i would imagine well stick near eachother.
I dont know how much ill ride out there, just broke my front driveshaft, i need to get a reliable design before i mash it in the dunes too hard

then again, i should try not going above 25mph in 4Lo.

Shovel, tow straps a bunch of friends

If you try climbing soft sand dunes with stock street tires you will get stuck. If you stay near the coast where the sand is harder your chanes of getting stuck are minimal.

thats why ill be counting on you guys lol ive been telling everyone i know, if they wanna go(too bad only two more people could go for the reason being reg cab) but no one said nothing so far so i guess ill be riding alone if not with one of my brothers. i drove by a cheap little place where they have used tires(i dont have a spare tire thats what i was looking for in the first place) and i was MT and AT tires that were about 70-60% with tread. would that make more of difference and if so which one would be better choice mud or all terrain?

Re: S-10's at PISMO DUNES, PLANS FOR SUMMER

Im running all terrain Goodyears and i dont have any trouble on the hard sand near the water but i am staying away from the soft sand in the heart of the dunes. I have only gotten " Stuck" once at pismo until it put itto 4wd

Headcount, anyone else have / is going to use a CB radio because this would be a good excuse to go buy oone

Focker, I seen more A/T tires than M/T at Glamis, its basically either Baja tire or A/T tire

However, please get BFG A/T, that's only a/t tire vs other a/t tires I used that gets me less stuck, Id recommend getting 31-33s for rear to lessen chance of getting stuck, anything over 33s isn't worth it unless you have 4:10(minimum) or higher, you'll lose power and you need tq at sands

Re: S-10's at PISMO DUNES, PLANS FOR SUMMER

Got my new rear tires from ebay.

eBay Motors: 4 NEW MICKEY THOMPSON 33-15.50-15 TIRES & WHEELS (item 250125252277 end time Jun-11-07 14:27:26 PDT)

Gave them a call, paid over the phone and the tires showed up the next week.

Re: S-10's at PISMO DUNES, PLANS FOR SUMMER

Bridgestone Dueler A/T 235/75/15 in rear, stuck everytime I stop and every 200,300 feet

Put those in front

BFGoodrich A/T 32x11.50x15 in rear, stop hard/skid and/or stop one curvy sand, if on flat soft sand, Im able get away

These was WITHOUT bed

Goodyear A/T 235/75/15 in rear on hard/soft sand, with 50% left and bed on its OK/OK as long you keep moving, it doesn't get stuck, BUT once stop, its hard NOT to get stuck, I was impressd a bit since itls more street tire than offroad tire

Those who are on STOCK 2wd height, put 235/75/15 and NO larger than that in front, any REAL A/T tire, not street/season tire

and 31-33 tire in rear

IF you can get hands on tires like Red Barons, GET THEM!

I will make list of good alternative A/T tires BUT BFG is 1st choice

What not to have? High void mud type tires don't seem to do well in dry soft sand.

Street tires of the same width almost seem to do better from what I've noticed. If all you have is street tires, don't worry, you can still have fun.

Re: S-10's at PISMO DUNES, PLANS FOR SUMMER

I can get deals for you on a/t tires around here, however 31s (variety of brand) but mainly several are new or new but several hundred miles on it, for $20-$40 each, I had pair 31s a/t ridge runner with 50% tread left for $40, got me good through dirt and mud well with open end axle(not anymore now)

finding baja tire are hard to find nowadays since a lot people check everydayn I only check twice a week, winter is best since no 1 offroad during winter much, only races(and they buy brand new tires so) have plenty new/new used tires leftover. but many 31s, 32s, 33s, 35s on 15s
