new front axle time (CV joints)
after my last time mudding I messed up my CV joints up front. Now they pop and click and sound like I have a card in my spokes. They also make it hard to steer sometimes.
Anyways, I have already priced new axles from autozone (65 bucks a piece), but I was wondering if there were any after market replacements that are sturdier than the OEMs. (No SFA) Also, what other routine maintainance like things should I perform while I'm there? I'm already planning on replacing upper and lower ball joints and brake pads. Is there anything else I should consider? |

Re: new front axle time (CV joints)
shoot me a price. They are 60 bucks a piece at auto zone. If you can get me a better price than that including shiping I'd hop all over it like a hooker on a thousand dollar bill.
would the wheel baring be a routine like maintainance kinda thing? I figured they were more like if it ain't broke don't fix it. Esspecially since they are expensive like you say. Wheel baring crossed my mind, but I didn't list it because they are not bad on my truck. Is there a so many mile mark where they are supposed to be replaced? |

Re: new front axle time (CV joints)
EDIT: Looking at the prices, you to have a pre-'96 S10, so my shafts wouldn't work if so. Yeah, don't replace the wheel bearings if they aren't broke. Lift your from tires up and grab the bottom inside and the upper outside of the tire with your hands and wiggle the tires in and out, see if there is any play in it. Let me know if you don't know what I mean. Last edited by NC4x4; 12-20-2007 at 05:53 PM. |

Re: new front axle time (CV joints)
my truck is a 96. what kind of play am I looking for? That's to tell if the wheel baring is needing to be replaced, right? My bro-in-law's crx needs wheel barings and he has alot of play in his wheel.

Re: new front axle time (CV joints)
Yes, the play in the wheel is to tell if the hub assembly is bad.
I have the CV shafts for you if needed. Let me know asap before I leave my brother's place though. |
