Re: It's dead, time for a fullsize

If the guy ever calls me back, I really, really, REALLY want this truck...

I have 2k saved up to fix the S-15, but the biggest limiting factor is I have no shop to work on the truck in; and I still haven't decided how I'm going to fix it. I want to take the easy way out and just swap in a 3.4, but I know if I do that it's still going to be a dog. Soooo, I'm considering getting a wrecked fullsize and swapping the drivetrain over and going SFA while I'm at it. Since I want to go with the 2nd option, I know I'm not going to be wheelin' this year - and I want something to go wheelin in... So...

If I buy it, those 35's are going on the S15 and it's getting bigger tires.

ooo I want that too. I'd keep the 35's on it and run it. You'd be surprised what you could do with that Blazer as is.

Oh yeah, I know. I think it just looks funny with the 35's, they look small on it. And besides, I've always wanted 35's on my S-15 - just more motivation to go SFA

If you do get that truck and when you don't need your 33s I know a few people that may be interested in them.

Re: It's dead, time for a fullsize

I was looking at a fullsize just like that today. They're wanting $8k for it. 6+ litre engine ex airbase model or something. Same camo pattern, same bullbars, that round thing on the grille and tow hooks. It's a beast. Get it

Re: It's dead, time for a fullsize

it looks like a stockish M1008 (iirc) CUCV. too bad they are not setup like the cucv pickups were with 1 tons, 4.56's and a detroit in the rear.

that particular one is obviously lifted and it looks to have beadlocks maybe.

No way I'd sell my 33's, I don't think they even have 500 miles on them. I couldn't justify selling 'em, they'd find their way onto something else - like my Lumina

Re: It's dead, time for a fullsize

Well I talked to the guy that owns that K5 today. He want's $5,500 for it. He put in a rebuilt 350, lockers front and rear, 6" rancho leaves, 35's and a bunch of other stuff. It's totally worth 5.5k but I'm not looking to spend THAT much.

Adam told me about a '92 S10 about 2.5 hours away from me for $200, I think I'm going to check it out tomorrow. I also found a lifted Suburban that I think I'm going to check out while I'm out there. Guy wants 2k for it...

I'm thinking about offering him $1,500 if it doesn't have any rust

Re: It's dead, time for a fullsize

Well yesterday was a FUCKING DISASTER.

I traveled three hours to check out this S10 for sale, the guy wanted $200 for it. The body was SHOT but the drivetrain was in amazing shape - It was exactly what I was looking for. It was owned by an old man who purchased it new, and the guy that bought it off him was an old man too. The truck had 115k on the trans and t-case, and only 80k on a new factory-replacement, installed by the dealer 4.3L engine. The drivetrain didn't leak a drop of fluids, and it was a perfect candidate for a 4.3L swap.

Well according to the guy the rear brake line was toast, but the front lines were fine and it still had a full pedal. He said the truck had a recent inspection sticker on it, and I'd have no trouble driving it the three hour trip back home. Well when I was checking the truck out, I pressed the brake pedal and it blew a front line; sending fluid flying everywhere. There would be no driving this truck the three hour trip home. The guy called all the autoparts stores in a 15 mile radius and found one open (I was hoping none were open). Well, I got to drive a nice 20 mile round trip to get some brake line and fluid. So $10 and 2 extra gallons of gas down the freaking drain we got back to this guys house to install the brake lines and they wouldn't go. Somehow the guy ****ed up the line from the caliper to the union (the flex line) and we couldn't install the new lines. I finally sad **** this and went home. Before we left the guy tried to sign the title over to me and take my $200 but I told him that I wasn't giving him anything because I wasn't sure I could get a truck and trailer up there to get the truck. I wasn't going to even bother, by the time I got the truck it would probably cost me $600 for a $200 truck. Shit it already cost me $40 in ****ing gas, a whole day, and $10 in free shit I gave the guy. We were there for 2 and a half hours trying to get this thing road worthy before I couldn't take it anymore. A full 9 freaking hours to look at this pile of crap truck...

What a shit day.

Well, it's not a late 80's truck so it has the crappy barn doors. I'm not really sure if I'm going to get it or not though...

Here's a shit ton of pics...

Re: It's dead, time for a fullsize

Alright, to update this 7 month old thread....

I picked up my truck from the girlfriend's house on Saturday. I figured I'd be winching this thing up onto the trailer, but for shits and giggles I connected the battery and cranked it over. Low and behold, it started up. I let it run for a little while and drove it around some. I actually drove it right up onto the trailer.

When I unloaded the truck from the trailer, I just drove it off. Again, it started right up with no problems. For kicks, I took it for a spin down the road, had no issues at all.

The whole time the truck was running, the oil pressure never dropped below 40PSI even at idle (7 months ago the oil pressure wouldn't go over 10 PSI and the motor was rapping). The truck ran great, like when I first got it. Didn't knock, misfire, sputter, anything. It just ran like there wasn't a damn thing wrong with it.

What the ****?

I'd drive it, but then I'd have to register, inspect and insure it. And then if the motor completely goes - like rod through the pan; that's a bunch of wasted money.

Re: It's dead, time for a fullsize

I would just take it out and beat the everloving shit out of it!!! Then get another s-10 with a 4.3 and transfer over all the good parts (tires, bumpers, lights, etc.)

IMO, Thats the best (and easiest) thing to do. PLUS it will be fun as hell

Re: It's dead, time for a fullsize

I found some trails by my house, so I might just end up wheelin' it until it gets a hard death knock.

Although my landlord has a fully equipped shop with a lift and engine hoist.... Might be worth it to just pull the engine and replace the bearings.

Re: It's dead, time for a fullsize

Id say wheel the ever lovin piss outta the bitch, then do a full out 350 swap. Around here a Guarnteed to run 4.3 or older (sometimes reman) go for roughly $350 to $650 depending on milage and performance mods.
