Re: fabing my own shackles

coming from my own experience, get 2 new bushings first, then build the shackle to the width of the bushing. I built my shackles inner width at 2 5/8" n even tho the leafs r 2 1/2 my shackles still weren't wide enuf, so we grinded the crap out of the bushing. For bolts, I think mine were 1/2" thick by 4" long. I hope I helped ya a lil bit

I was thinking on building them 3" inner so i could use the stock bushings cause they are in good shape and maybe use the 1/2" bolts of 4" long

Re: fabing my own shackles

yeah if you can reuse the stock bushings, that will save you $20. In my case, I had to melt the stock bushings out with an acetylene torch and hammer away at them with an air hammer to get them and the old bolts out - but I also live in michigan where there is more salt on the roads than snow

thank you very much man for your help, if anyone has more ideas or suggestions be free to tell them cause right now its rainning around here so all the welding will have to wait for 2 or 3 days.

Re: fabing my own shackles

for my rear shackles, we got 2 pairs of stock shackles. flipped one and laid them together. welded the seem inside and outside, ground the welds with a flap wheel, then used 1/4" steel plate and plated the inside, and outside and sides of the shackle. It lifted the back nicely, and has not had any problems. I was going to just fab some up from scratch, but I didn't have the metal I needed at the moment, and a buddy of mine had an extra pair of stock shackles.
