dunno if anyone cares but heres something different

doing a buildup and figured id let you all see what im doing.

well i have is a 1991 GMC Jimmy 1500 with the following

dana 60 Front with 4:56's and posi.
CTM u-joints
35 spline Alloy axle shafts
ATOR 35 spline Lockouts
Custom Hydro assist
ORD High Steer w/ 2wd steer gear box for side to side, not push pull steering
Rock crusher Diff cover
Rebuilt King pins
Black Widow Extended brake lines (4 inches longer then pro comp)
New Brakes

14Bolt w/ Detroit Locker & 4:56's
Ruff Stuff Spring Perchs
Pro-comp extended brake lines
DIY4X Pinion Guard (BEEFY!!!)
New Brakes
ORD 4 inch Shackles Fully greasable
ORD Shakle flip kit
ORD Frame brace for steering box
Blazen Offroad Winch Bumper
BlueTorch Fab U-Bolts

New Altenater
Stainless steel brake lines front to rear
Underneath Coated with Rustolem Hammered paint

38.5 TSL's

so, wheeled it a bunch at Gore VA and RC in PA. body got beat to crap and it was basicly falling off. so i decided to do a body swap...

here is the donor truck and the trail rig side by side

a slight difference in size

Here is the rear shot, the body will be moved forward a few more inchs so the rear frame is going to be hacked right behind the shackle. the tank has been pulled and a fuel cell will be installed in its place.

here is a shot to show how wide the stance is. This is fullwidth 1 tons with 4.25 inch back spacing on 38's. ill be going to 42's shortly.

In this picture, you notice how tight space will be. Where the body sits right now there is no room for a radiator or fan, so we need to cut out the firewall and move the body forward a little bit.

When we move the body forward, that will resolve the frame hanging out in the front and my offroad bumper and 12kwarn will hide what ever we dont get tucked in under the truck

Another shot of the side of the s-10, 42's will look hot on there

Couple other things to note, the rear will need comp cut to clear the tires, the front will be cut from the front wheel well to the core support to clear the tires. The wheelbase on the s10 is 101 inch's, the wheel base on the jimmy is 105.

The inside of the s10 will have a full cage installed, the rear and side windows will be pulled, the doors will be removed with the door bars coming out the side of the body a inch or to then being angled into the truck to connect to the cage. this will give us alot more room and will act as a slider for trees and hopefully spare the body for a little bit.

The inside of the roof has been notched as well to provide more headroom as well. the cage will sit super close to the body. Also during the swap a spool will be installed in the D60 because posi sucks The entire dash, heat and ac will be removed and a pair of tubes will run across and will run aftermarket gauges as well with a winch controller and dual battery switch. batterys will be located behind the passenger seat.

thats all i got right now. The birth of the gmc s-10 blazer

Re: dunno if anyone cares but heres something different

shot of the jimmy before it was ever wheeled It was so pretty

and the next set of pictures are for comedy sake :P i beat my rig, and well this is the first and only time i ran a mud pit. I will never do it again because it was so nasty, it stank and the mud took 4 hours of power washing. this also broke my steering box, 2 tires, sheered the steering coluom in half at the tilt, tailgate fell off, 2 body mounts broke.... screw mud!

Re: dunno if anyone cares but heres something different

is your s10 a 4dr? my 2dr's wheel base is 100.5. nice to see another s10 with full size axles. also, are your 38.5 tsls the 16 wide flavor? they seem a lot narrower than mine (mine are also on a 10" rim)

First of all I commend the Ingenuity on that build, but I hate to see a classic chevy like that get butchered to save a S10,bondo or not my '77 gmc was bondo bucket from hell when I bought it in HS,same with current '79 but new sheet metal works wonders.Second,to put all that effort into a build and not upgrade the axles,,anyway not trying to bash it just my opinion.

yeah, hes already upgarded the axles about as far as you can go. the next step would be 2 1/2 ton rockwells

and the s10 body on a full size frame has been done thousands of times, probably since the s10 debuted in the early 80's.

Was talking about the other person's build, but guess it applies for both,I thought a D60 front and FF14 bolt rear would be better,my bad on the axles,I know you rock guys know your axles.Still not a fan of body swaps, guess I just love the old full sizes to much to see them thrown away,I'll shut up nowgood luck with the build anyhow.

Re: dunno if anyone cares but heres something different

i have a D60 with CTM's and Inner and outter 35 spline alloys. Not much better then that axle wise unless you go to a rockwell which has allready been said.

As far as the body swap i didnt have much of a choice. the Body mounts were shot on both the frame and body, it was being held together with ratchet straps since 5 trips ago. As much as i love the fullsize, It is just to wide. I ripped both mirrors off and the passenger door was caved in to the point the window wouldnt work anymore. The seams at the top of the cab were seperating, and the rest of the truck was allready full of bondo which was falling out from the body flexing so much due to only 2 out of 6 or so mounts holding it on.

The reason im doing the s-10 is not only due to size, but its something different. Yea it may have been dont a million times but not the way im doing it. I will have updated pictures sometime this afternoon. The firewall has been removed, and the floor has been notched to allow the cab to sit lower onto the frame for a lower Center of gravity.

Thanks for the comments guys, updates to come.

Re: dunno if anyone cares but heres something different

also want to add is if you notice, you dont see the frame underneath. Your typical body swapped s-10 to fullsize people dont take the time to redo the mounts and even cut the floor to allow it to sit low on the body.

After doing all that work doesn't it bother you that the wheels aren't centered in the wheel wells. It would drive me nuts.

thank god you actually made the body "fit" the frame instead of using ungodly huge body lifts in some places. looks awesome.

I need to keep an eye on this, I have all the stuff to start a similar swap, but I'm going with a pickup instead of a Blazer. Awesome work keep it up!

The guts of the swap are:
'86 Jimmy:
Dana 60 front
14 bolt lincon locker rear 4:10 gears
350 turbo tranny with tow and go shift kit
205 transfercase
454 big block
B&M mega lite truck shifter
3" BL
6 inch suspension lift with Rancho shocks
42 inch swampers mounted on 16.5 rims
8000 LB ramsey winch with custom made bumper

7 inch susp lift.

4 inch shackle flip, 3 inch springs in the rear, 6 inch springs in the front and the added inch with the D60 pads.

the only thing S-10 about the entire truck is the body. rest if Jimmy and Cucv

yea that was the one thing i didnt not want to happen. the typical frame rail hanging 4 feet below the body is lame. Also if i hadnt done the notch and what not, that truck would be at least a foot taller, i wanted to get the COG as low as possible before screwing with the leaf packs.

the only thing S-10 about the entire truck is the body. rest if Jimmy and Cucv
your build sheet looks like a ck5 ad list...im surprised i dont see some DIY4x b52's on there.

do you plan on "screwing with the leaf packs" to make it even lower or leave it that way it is? and tell me that front shackle gets better than that

im just teasing you in case you cant tell

Sorry for the hijack, I didn't do that to the truck. I picked it up for $500 after some guy rolled it trying to go on quad trails with it.

sadly enough it is haha. No shame in it Theres very little options and venders to work with for these fullsize's and well they flock too the biggest site out there outside of pirate and pawn there crap.

ive only bought from 3 vendors from there though, blazenoffroad (Good guy, super nice) and ORD, there crap is honestly beef. I love there stuff and then DIY4X which i got the pinion guard.

the rest was from pirate vendors or fabbed.

as for the leafs, im going to pull a leaf out of each pack when the builds done and install ford shock towers and order longer shocks and inboard the rear shocks. My deckover trailer sits at 35 inch's right now and i can plop a tire on the deck and not pull a tire off the ground, it flex's good. we shall see if the cages affects that at all cause i imagine part of that is frame flex :P
