a little sneak peak

well, this is a step in the right direction, and im sure a lot of people are wanting to know more about this particular little project. we got our sas kit cut out and formed this weekend, at least the front half. i will be 4 linking the rear of my truck so i wont be able to use the rear half, and that will have to go on a different truck. i did however also get everything for my 4 link cutout. sunday i will probably be tacking everything together, and seeing where it goes from there. i was really pleased with the way the lettering turned out, it looks sweet. now that we have built the first one, we have seen a few ways to improve the design and make it either stronger or easier to produce, so the end results will vary a little bit from this prototype, but thats why you prototype stuff in the first place. i threw in some pics of the flat parts and the process of making them for the curious.

we also cut out a prototype of a generic weld on front crossmember that we will probably be selling much sooner than the bolt on kit. it could be a soon as next week, hell i would sell this one if somebody wants it, it turned out great.

we also cut out these sweet shock towers

would it help if i just made you something to modify your current trans crossmember? i dont know if we will ever make a stand alone crossmember, and the one we just cut out will be redesigned by the time we try and sell it. but i might be able to just make you up something real quick. would you be into something like that?

Thats a possibility. What about the shock mounts? I could demo them for you, I have a good tap and die set and could test them for ya.

what would you need the tap and die for? the are designed to just bolt to the frame with a traditional nut and bolt. we just need to get a quote for those and they should be available sooner rather than later.

Re: a little sneak peak

so i have that front crossmember on my truck right now. the winch fits just like i wanted it to. the thing is however, it doesnt put the shackle were i initially wanted. so it looks like i will have to redesign the whole shackle/trans crossmember thing. i alluded to this in the frame width thread, now the shackle is going to go right under the body mount, not behind it like originally. this might make it be a different kit for first and second gens. it will probably also mean a stand alone trans crossmember because it would be too far forward with the original design.

Re: a little sneak peak

alright, its been a long time but we have progress. today we got the revised design cut out for the back half of the sas kit. it should be fitted by this weekend, and everything could fall together soon. the new design will incorporate a shackle with the bushing in it, and will have a much more tunable shackle angle. it will also allow for a wider variety of springs.

its just me but IMO if they go in productive, DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON MAKING THE "3 LEAF FAB"

also if i even get to get these kit, i probably cut the "3 LEAF FAB" part out and weld in a plate so not need to see that "ajhgahb" under there

that is cut out when the whole thing is cut out, its not really that much more and certainly not any more time. if someone wanted one without that, then we might be able to accommodate, but otherwise they will all be that way. we are not the only company putting stuff like that in our products and that is one way we get our name out. there is no doubt where it came from when it says "3 Leaf Fab". its the same principal as the stainless logo in our shackles, which by the way, is repeated in the shackles for the front.

i will have enough parts for a universal weld on kit, it wont be near as fancy as the bolt on stuff, but it will be simpler and cheaper. you could use something like that on your dakota, but it would be up to you to set up the lift amount and such. even the bolt on kit will still require the consumer to decide what springs to use, where to place the axle, how much lift, etc.
