well.. if you want to go the SFA route.. start reading up in the solid axle section...

if you want to go IFS.. then you have to either cut your frame in half and swap in the independent front.. or switch frames to a 4x4 frame.

Re: 98 2wd-->98 4wd

it would be easier by far to just swap in a solid axle than try and get the stock IFS to work.

If you cant do the SAS, just swap your body onto a 4x4 frame. That would be the easiest way.

How about all-wheel drive like the syclones and typhoons? would the front need a limited slip?

Re: 98 2wd-->98 4wd

Like already mentioned, if your wanting a solid axle go for it, if your wanting IFS sell your truck and buy a 4wd, GM already did it for ya.

Just switch the IFS parts over from the 4x4 to the 2x4, then the trans/transfer case/driveshaft.

Re: 98 2wd-->98 4wd

the frame is completely different on the 2wd verse the 4wd. i'm with 90blueS10, you would basically need the front half of a 4wd frame to swap over the 4wd suspension. nothing is the same between the two, not the control arms, not the mount for the differential (which the 2wd doesnt even have a provision for), nothing.

if you wanted to do it that bad you could do it, by no means do you absolutely have to cut the frame in half, thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard.

Re: 98 2wd-->98 4wd

It wouldn't be any different than sub-framing an old car. I've done it many times and if you spend a little time doing it, it can be very hard to detect were it was done, but the only thing that I would be doing with 4wd S10 IFS is removing it.

Yeah, I'm still IFS, but if I was making a 2wd into a 4wd, especially if I had any urge to go wheeling, then I think IFS would be the last thing on my mind.

What about swapping your body and engine with all electronics to a SFA frame. Ive been thinking of this for a while. But i reallydont know what frame would be a good choice with nearly correct width axles. I most certainly dont want full width, like a K10 or something.

it would be easir to do a sfa swap on your current frame. Its really not that hard to do.

Re: 98 2wd-->98 4wd

alot of people say how easy the sas is. But ive never been able to find anyone to help. My welding and fab skills are not good enough to do it.
