steering wobble

I was going to ask this in the steering forum but since my truck is an sfa conversion, I thought I might get a better answer here. I started entering a highway and accel'd to bout 45 mph when my steering wheel started to wobble quite violently. I rolled off to the side thinking it was a front flat tire. Got out to inspect all my tires and they were all fine. This has never happended to me before and it sure took me by surprise. WTF just happened? I continued home and checked tire pressure, t/rods, ball joints, lug nuts, as well as my rag joint. I've driven my sfa for 8 months now and never had this happen. I have 31s that have been recently rebalanced. I can find no excessive play in my steering. I have a high steer bracket. What I don't have is a steering stablizer shock up front. What do you think is my problem? I seems like I hit a small dip in the road and the shock amplified to a point that the whole truck was shaking. thanks for any replies.

Re: steering wobble

Thanks for the replies guys. update, I rechecked my steering play with the engine off and found my rag joint very loose. I'll get a replacement as well as a steer stabilizer. So that's what they call a death wobble huh? maybe it took some time for it to break down. I thought it only can happen with really big tires! Aloha again.

Re: steering wobble

maybe he never hit bumps going at the speed..

i noticed my truck did it when i was hardly holding the wheel, and when just one front tire would hit the bump.

Re: steering wobble

Recheck your alignment too. Mine was toed in too far and would death wobble at 25 if I hit even a small bump.
