Re: SFA Spring issue/curse...need help

your mount is WAYYYYYYYY to far foreward. Depending upon where you mounted your cross member up front, Mine is as far foreward as it can be, and my mount is a lil bit farther foreward than the body mount. Here are some pics of mine. You have to fab up a mount because its narrower than the frame rails.

Ignore the very ugly welds..... they have all been redone. the eye measures 45" from the front spring mount.

like said above your mounts are way too far foward, second you dont want your mounts that far off the frame or you will tear the metal with all the force being applied

X2, that is way to much stress on that small area of the frame. It will fix though!

What springs are you using?

Re: SFA Spring issue/curse...need help

So, it looks like I have a lot of cutting and grinding to do. I can see the mount should be back behind the body mounts right? I thought I was close, but no dice here. My measurement from the front bracket to the mount was 35". I can see where 1' would have made all the difference in the world. In order to move it back 1', I'll have to fab up a mounting "platform won't I? I'm using 93 Jeep Cherokee springs from Rancho, 3" lift.
Thanks for your help fellas.

Is that 45" from center of (from spring mount hole) to center of the shackle hole?, or front of shackle bracket?

It from the center of the front spring hanger hole to the rear shackle hole. If you look, you can see my markings on the the frame. one side sharpie other side i scratched it with an awl.

Re: SFA Spring issue/curse...need help

Okay, measurements are as follows.........36 24 26..........no, that's not right....lol. Spring length is 43.5 center eye to center eye. From the center of the front mount to the center of the rear mount is 38", my spring hanger is 10"(Which needs to be replaced anyway). Hope that answers any questions.

Re: SFA Spring issue/curse...need help

are you using the rancho 44044s? it looks like it from your pics. If you are, set your shackle eye to exactly 45" from the front and you will have a good shackle angle. I believe when they flatten out they are a 47" leaf spring.

Re: SFA Spring issue/curse...need help

wow looks like most everyone has used the same design for shackle mounts... just a suggestion before you go to putting a heap of weld back on the mounts, just tack them on and put weight on the suspension. Leaving the jack stands just under the frame to catch it if the tack breaks. This will give you a good idea where your shackle angle will be. If its not right cut a couple of tacks and move it and try again. Saves alot of work in the long run. It is supprizing how much a couple of tacks will hold. It is hard to say exactly where to put them as every vehicle is diffent (spring angle, shackle length, extra weight added to front, 4cyl, 6 cyl, ect.
