Re: Sas Info

Mkae sure its not a 7.625" rear. I dont know exactly what year they started using them, but I know it was around that time. The 7.625 has 28 spline axles and the 7.5 has 26 splines.

The only way you could tell is by pulling out a shaft and counting the splines (I Think).

Re: Sas Info

looks like the ring and pinions are interchangeable. i don't even have any gears for the 7.625. they also share the same master install kit.

Re: Sas Info

If you're gonna put money into the rear axle you're better off just buying an 8.8 that already has 4.10. That's what I did, mine has the LS too.
PLUS you can get rear disk brakes, and getting the e-brake to work is REAL easy.

Its been a while since i read up on the differences, but I think to run a 7.5 ring gear you have to change the carrier. And that would require getting 26 spline axle shafts to match.

I could be wrong though. Like I said, its been awhile.

Re: Sas Info

I might do that, trouble im having is finding one of those damn things around here........... I deff leaving all of my options open. Once i get up some funds, i will probably hit up the local pnp to see what they have. Where do you find the id tag on the 8.8 for the gears?

Re: Sas Info

There's a small tag that SHOULD be held on by one of the diff cover bolts. On that tag it'll tell you the gear ratio AND if it's limited slip or open.

You can see it at the "2:00" bolt

This one you can see the bottom row says "3L55" that means it's got 3.55 gears and limited slip.

Re: Sas Info

Thanks Baggey, That link was awesome. Now im really considering the 8.8 swap into my blazer. How common are the ones with 4.10s and should i look for the smaller engine with those gears?

Re: Sas Info

dont worry about the parking brake, mine was super easy to hook up. It was almost a direct install. And for the price of gears you could buy an 8.8.

Re: Sas Info

if its the 28 spline version it probably would. I was bouncing with heavy 33's and a locker and it never gave me any problems. So if you cant find an 8.8 you could keep it.

Getting one with 4.10 around here is KINDA common. I can think of two in my area last time I checked. It's getting one that is 4.10 and limited slip that can be a little bit of an issue.

Re: Sas Info

Update on your 92 S10 Axle:

Between the years, the carriers changed and like Wrekd stated they were identified as 7.5 and 7.625 but the ring gears are the same.

Re: Sas Info

Ah alright. cool. I appreciate the help guys. Im deff looking into the 8.8 swap. Im not worried about if its got limited slip or not cause i would probably just throw an aussie locker in it. Im going to be working a few side jobs with a buddy of mine so that i can come up with some more funds for the project, but that means the work is going to be put on hold, i am deff keeping an eye out for one...

Re: Sas Info

Did a lil bit tonight. Just cleaned up the d30, painted it and mounted the inspection tires and wheels on it. no pics, but it came out damn good.... Might also have found an 8.8. I drove by a local scrap yard and they had a 4 dr newer body type sitting there, i drove by it again, but couldn't tell if it had discs brakes or not. We will find out tomorrow, hopefully before they crush it.......

Re: Sas Info

Well donno about the axle. They were planning on crushing the car, and the guy still wanted 200 bucks for it, although it had 3.73 gears. I wasn't too worried about it. Real quick thou, how long of shocks should i be looking at running, i gotta get hoops from 4wdjoey in either 12 or 14". Types would be awesome too. Thanks guys.

if thats the gears that you want to run id say 150 and if your willing to you could go 200. They go for 125 around me with what ever ratio.

We will find out. The guy called me back and said he had a bunch of them and i told him how to check the ratio, so he will call me back some time. We will see. It seems like they are all going for around 200, so ill see what i can talk him down too.
