Re: Project s-ton

Messed around a little after taking the S-Ton off the trailer, I know they are poser pics but thought I'd post something, going to be working on mounting the hydro ram this week and getting it ready for its maiden voyage June 20.

Re: Project s-ton

Nice flex pics!!

You gotta let us know how you like those Iroks once you get it on the trail. Im thinkin about getting a set of those instead of the Swampers.

Re: Project s-ton

I love Iroks, this is my 2nd set. I ran a set of 36's on my k5, they flex way better then tsl's and ride smooth. They really work great for lighter weight vehicles, my buddys run 42's on their 4runner and Jeep TJ. Best all around tire in my opinion, work really well in sand and snow and awesome on the rocks, they even cleaned out pretty good in deep mud but I try to stay out of that crap. For someone that drives their rig on the road, iroks can't be beat, use to drive the k5 on the street and they never flat spotted @ all, it would sit for a couple of months @ a time and still run true down the road. Oh and I never had them balanced. Sorry I sound like a sales man (I'm not) I've just been really unhappy with other super swamper tires and ever since I bought a set of these, I'm happy as flies on horse $h!t.

Re: Project s-ton

i can testify, my swampers wont flex until they have less than 5 psi in them, and then they burp it all out when they do flex. i'm going to have to run bead locks on mine just to air them down properly. i will say however, i like to run the regular tsl's becuase of their toughness.

Re: Project s-ton

My buddy ran some 37's on his tow rig, didn't flex as much as bias ply but I think he got 30k miles out of them to the wear bars. Why would you go for radials, the bias ply are cheaper and still run really good down the road.

I drive mine nearly everyday and with a trailer behind it a lot. I've ran bias tires before and I just really prefer a radial due to the better feel and mileage gain. If it was used mostly off-road I would run bias tires in a second.

The 30k miles on a set is what I was wanting to hear also.

Re: Project s-ton

The ones on my white 70 chevy are 36 in radials and the run great down the highway and are showing little wear for what I put them through on that truck they flex well because of probaly the weight but as far as mud runs ive ran in and trails i have been through on them, they did great. I do also have 39.5 radials on my s-10 don't know how well they flex on the lighter truck i wanted bias but a got a deal i couldnt pass up on these

im collecting stuff for my SAS project slowly, and i want about the same setup as what you have, it looks awesome. only difference is im going with 1/2 ton diffs for now... im also only going to be running 35's

I went with 52" chevy leaf springs from the rear of a 3/4 ton p/u and I removed one leaf. For the pitman arm I went with the 78-79 ford bronco 3" dropped arm and used a astro van box because I moved the axle pretty far forward.

Thanks bro, that helps alot i noticed that you didnt use the stock hole on the front springs... did you drill a new hole in the leafs to be able to move the axle forward?

he did, but with you running only 35's there would be no need to do that.

Re: Project s-ton

Here's a few pics from our run this weekend, I'm getting more use to this thing and pushing it a little further each time. Worked awesome again the entire day.

2 stage video of me climbing water fall, sorry for the bad video but my buddy was trying to video and spot me @ the same time.

Re: Project s-ton

Well it's been couple of months since I've updated my thread, I've been having a kick a$$ time with this thing. Been having so much fun wheelin it I still haven't painted it yet, but I will soon before I build my cage. The only thing that has broken was the rear driveline and I destroyed that when I was crawling some rocks, other than that this thing has been flawless. Here is a few more pics I have from some wheelin trips.

My newest project was building a tubing bender, I just finished the gottrikes.com bender, this thing works great, got my protools die from 4wdjoey (Thanks again!)

question for ya when you put the 56" leafs on the rear of that did you have to move the front rear spring mount? and if so roughly how much?

otherwise damn thats a sweet ass ride! i for one am jealous

I didn't move the mount at all, just bolted the spring in, I ran the spring with the 30" side towards the front so it would move my axle back.

at first i didn't see the two horizontal support bars, and i thought you were just doing the "bullbar" type bumper, i was gonna say it don't look too strong, but now that I look at the second pic i see the support you put on it

Re: Project s-ton

how does your astro box push your hydro ram? I have the factory 2wd box in my 84 but from what i understand there the same thing. Im planning on going to hydro assist and was wondering how yours did. Also what bore and stroke did you go with?

I have had absolutely no problems with the astro box pushing the ram, it is working great, can't believe I ever wheeled without ram assist. Ram has a 8" stroke and I think either a 1 3/4" or 2" bore, I'll check tomorrow.

This is where I got my cap, it has a 3/8 npt port, I measured my cap first and made sure it would fit.

bumper looks great, id go with an exo cage, so you can slide it down trees if you have to and not destroy the body like i did.
