Might be a stupid question, but what is the bar above the tie rod that looks to be connected to the two leaf springs.. and it also looks square.....

just so you know, its about pointless to run anything less than a 38 on a 60 front.

you can do it, but it seems like you would be not utilizing the strength of the axle, and it would hang down more than a 44 or your 30. not to mention, they weight about 700 lbs.

yea, i mean i wont do it cause i'd have to look into a whole new drive train.. but who knows! your just saying its overkill.. which i figured it would be!

the front would be overkill, the rear is just adequate. almost all 60 rears, at least the ff truck ones are 30 spline 1.31 axles, the same as a d44. they have a larger ring gear, but they dont have the 1.5" 35 spline shafts like the 60 fronts do. you can however, take the 35 spline shafts from a d70 rear, and put them in the 60 rear with a 35 spline carrier. that is the thing to do with 60 rears.

Re: Project: Fix to busted CV shafts & wheel bearings! 56k no no

If you decide on the Dana 60s, keep a in mind is it legal to drive on the road? Around here in michigan i think it says you MUST have mud flaps if the tires stick out wider than the fenders.

My buddys got a CJ7 on fullwidths he drives on the road rarely, he never had a problem with cops around here. Might be something to consider.

But other than that i say GO FOR IT! Dana 44 front should be more than adequite for a trail rig, 14bolt full floater in rear would be overkill BUT, never gotta worry bout breaking it.

I ran 42s (tractor tires none the less) on a Dana44HD 8lug front and only broke an outershaft due to a fresh motor and some dry pavement

Just for you baggey..

today i got my adapters on also got the soft 8's mounted back on looks a shit ton better! the front track is only about an inch narrower. i can live with that.!!

light flexing.

now all i need is rework exhaust, new tranny xmember, and get shock hoops fabbed. minus all the small things i need to do yet!

then save up for my pre runner bedsides / fenders?

Why don't you just get a driveshaft off of an XJ? They should be about the right length. Just get one with the CV joint and slip yoke
And what are you gonna do to fix your steering?

the drop pitman arm may not fully fix your steering issue, you still may not be able to turn all the way without hitting the drag link on the leaf springs. You should get a Z-link like TFPETS or a crossover steering arm like I'm doing.

Re: Project: Fix to busted CV shafts & wheel bearings! 56k no no

so i was thinking about my trucks front ds. while at work tonight.

if i just get my stock one extended, it wont be telescoping. therefore it will just be one length. no adjustment. will that be ok?
or should i get the jeep DS to use, and will it fit right onto my tcase or will i have to do something there as well??

also NC could i get a pic of your tranny cross member?
