Re: Project: Fix to busted CV shafts & wheel bearings! 56k no no

The worst one I saw was a Ford Ranger. It was actually a nice lookin truck paint and body wise. The guy had it on some fullsize truck frame. It had probably 6" of block in the front and about 10" in back with who knows how much body lift. And it only had probably 35's on it. I didnt even wanna look at the steering

I'll have to get some pics of this guys Durango one day for you guys. Its on 53" Michelins and the frame looks like a fvckin jungle gym. And the steering.....well I wont get into that . I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

Re: Project: Fix to busted CV shafts & wheel bearings! 56k no no

Heres what I found on steering:

(2) Inspect steering system and
REJECT IF

one or more of the following apply:
(i) Steering gear box is loose on frame.
(ii) Measured movement at the front or
rear of a tire is greater than 1/4-inch.
Eliminate all wheel bearing movement
by applying the service brake; then,
with the vehicle raised and wheels in
the straight ahead position, grasp the
front and rear of the tire and attempt
to move the assembly right and left
without moving the steering gear.
Measure the movement.
(iii) The linkage components are not
secured with cotter pins or other
suitable devices.
(iv) The steering stops allow the tire to rub
on the frame or chassis parts.
(v) The front wheels are incapable of
being turned to the right and left
steering stops without binding or
interference.

It dont say nuthin about hydro steering. Just make sure there are no leaks and everything should be alright.

How the hell are your tires rubbing??? Mine weren't even close to rubbing anywhere.

15x8 4.5 BS 37-13 boggers. just the lugs hit the springs.

Ahhh, Mine were 15x8 with 3.75 backspace. You need new rims. Or turn the steering stops out some, or cut the inside lugs off.

You dont have to go with there kit. It just kinda gives you the idea of what you need to get. Instead of there high flow pump, you can mod your own. Find your own fluid reservoir, get your lines made locally. TSC might have an orbital you could buy for alot less along with the ram. Go with a single ended ram so you dont have to make 2 mini tie rods. Just gotta know where to look for stuff. Do ALOT of searching on Pirate for other peoples setups and you could probably get away with it for pretty cheap.

I think you can use ones off of forklifts, farm tractors, and shit like that. Just have to find a source for one. Theres gotta be a place online to get that shit cheap. I know OOBER on ZR2USA got his for like $40.

Good price. I just dont know which ram would work good with it. Plus its Non Load Reactive. I think the load reactive ones are the ones to use.

I ran a steering box off of a 1971 Cadillac with my last setup which was locked F/R with 36x14.50's. I turned surpisingly easy in the rocks, but the feedback at highway speeds sucked. BTW, it will bolt up to the S10 frame with no mods, only problems where that the Caddy input shaft was larger, so it had to have the Caddy rag joint and they use flare fittings instead of O-ring, but that wasn't anything that two compression fittings didn't cure .

Im gonna see how my steering is with the 60 first. If I can get lock to lock with it, Im probably just gonna go assist.

I think what was screwing my steering up on my last setup was the front to back angle of my draglink. But my new springs will move the axle forward another 2". So I'll see how it is once I get it all setup.

i've been wondering the same thing. our boxes are similar to a full size, but on the inside and not the outside of the frame. the typical place on the full size box is up against the frame rail on ours. i just havent gotten around to it yet.
