Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
You guys are all ridiculous. I actually didn't get the tires on today. A combination of the shop not having time to do them today AND me working all day today and yesterday didn't help either. I'm shooting to get them done Monday or Wednesday.
Tomorrow I plan to get some if not all the shocks mounted and get the drive shaft back into place. If that happens I'll take it for a test drive WITH shocks. Whatever progress made tomorrow will be digitally archived and shared with the s10forum community. |

Heck I bought my new tires and had them installed all in one afternoon...I now have brand new 33x13.50 Super Swamper TSL's on my truck...same ones I had already except they have tread on them!

Well if my tires came to me in one day I would have had them put on too. But they came different days! When I got the third and fourth I had work, and have had it since.

Mount 'em yourself, all you need is about 30 flathead screwdrivers and a BFH

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
Update: So I didn't get into the garage today because the guys that actually own it needed it. But I wasn't completely useless. I went and got my front drive shaft today, so I should be able to get that in as soon as my crossmember gets customized. Tomorrow I plan to move the rear axle forward and get the rear drive shaft back in.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
I actually haven't decided what I'm doing yet. I was looking at it today and my options are somewhat limited. There is alot of crap in the way.
My list of stuff to complete is as follows: 1. Mount shocks (waiting for F250 shock towers to come in) 2. Tranny cross member 3. Reroute exhaust 4. Put a CV joint on rear drive shaft 5. Change out front output shaft to accept Jeep drive shaft 6. Tires 7. WHEEL |

LMK if you need me to head up there with my welder to see if we can do something about your exhaust.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
I don't think that'll be necessary for a little while. The exhaust is one of the last things on my list. Shocks and rear drive shaft is first. The whole front drive train is the last of my worries. I'll get some pictures so you can see what needs to be done.

Then you could help me figure out my tranny Xmember and some other welding things I need. |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
I think your problem isn't that your tires aren't big enough. I think it's more that they are bald ass A/Ts. Plus my 33s don't have much tread on them, but they're great spares.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
my advice to you if you guys do decide to do the swap is to take your time, do your research, and do it right the first time.
Once you get really close to finished (like I am) the project will basically "nickel and dime" you to death. All I need to finish my project is a few small parts, and it's a pain in the ass waiting for them. So do better than I did and get ALL your parts (and maybe some extras) BEFORE the build. |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
I can't do any work on the truck for two reasons. One I'm waiting for parts to come, and two finals week starts tomorrow so I have other stuff that needs to happen before the truck.
Once work begins again I'll get some pictures |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
Still no updates guys. Finals week is over FINALLY and I'm still waiting for stuff to come in the mail. I unfortunately 250 miles from my truck until Saturday so I won't be able to get any parts from the mail room on campus until Monday. Then I leave on Tuesday for a 17 day backpacking trip in Utah. So basically the truck is going to sit for a while. But once I get back I'm taking a FULL weekend and getting it trail ready.

![]() I was going to get my 33's today, but decided that I'm still going to wait until I can get those wheels sandblasted so I can paint 'em. I was just going to have them put the 33's on my stock wheels, but I have enough rubbing problems with the tires on there now. |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
Sweet Chris, can't wait to see how it looks!
So this is my idea, I'd like some input to see what you guys think. Sally never came with a tailgate, only one of those net things. Then I bobbed the bed so even if I had a tailgate it would have been rendered useless anyways. The net has been OKAY for a while but it's still a pain in the ass, and I like the net because I can see behind me better and know where I am when offroading. A few of the trails around here have siginifant drop offs so turning around can be difficult and being able to see EXACTLY where the ground is helps. The down side is stuff slides out from under it and it's annoying. So my idea is to get some either 1.5" or 2" by 1/4" flat stock and make a tail gate that slides in and out from the top. I'll slide in and out of a track kind of deal, like really small C channel. and I'll also put some angles on the bed sides to give it strength if the tail gate is out. I'll try to draw a picture later on paint and post it up. Anyone have any advice? Questions? Comments? Let me know! |

Sounds like it should work. Are you talking about making it slotted like a headache rack so that you can still see out of it?

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
I have no idea what a headache rack is. Basically it'll be a rectangle made out of flat stock with one big X in it for cross support. It's a very simple design. I don't use my bed A LOT but it's nice to know that when I do I can use it and not have to worry about stuff falling out.

why not just put a 2x4 at the end of your bed, standing it on its side.. simple and cheap

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
Sounds like a good idea, but I have a better one... Why not build the tailgate like you're thinking of, but have it work like a stock tailgate should. IMO that would be much better, because then if you carry something (gear, wood, whatever) that you need the extra room in the bed for, instead of removing your tailgate, you can open it up. Shouldn't take much more work either, and if you need parts - I have a whole spare bed & tailgate
I still think you should section in the rear of a 1st gen to add the tail lights. |
