Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
Wrekd - It steers(is that even a word?) not bad. I don't have jam nuts for it yet because they haven't been delivered. So I haven't driven it a great deal. It is also REALLY scary to drive with the lack of shocks so I haven't put it through its paces yet.
Once I do all that I'll let you all know. Diesel - Thanks! |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
A mini spool is a little different than a locker or a posi. When going around corners lockers and posi units UNlock so that you don't hop around the corner. A mini spool replaces the spider gears and keeps both axle shafts locked 100% of the time. So basically if you are going around tight corners (parking lots especially) either the inside tire will drag or the outside tire will hop. Because when you turn one has to go faster than the other.
You can get these new for like $100 off eBay, I can't give you mine because after ChrisInVT said he didn't want it I scrapped the axle with the mini spool installed. My suggestion, DO NOT get a mini spool UNLESS it's a trail only truck. It wasn't bad on the road, but as soon as tight turns were involved (intersections, parking lots, construction zones) it sucked. |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
Why would you want a grenade-lock?
Get a posi carrier out of an F-Body - that's what I did. IIRC 88+ have the 28 spline and 87- have the 26 Edit: check out this thread: http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f13/10-bolt-faq-129992/ Last edited by ChrisInVT : 03-20-2008 at 12:23 PM. |

besides, the zr2 g80 is for the 8.5 rear end and wouldnt fit your application. also, if your a fairly good welder, you can weld the side and spider gears to the carrier like i did. for all practical purposes its a spool, but it only cost me the new gear oil and some RTV. |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
So update on my Jam Nuts. I sent the seller an email saying that they hadn't arrived and she replied saying that she checked with USPS and they didn't have any record of the shipment. So the seller sent me another pair yesterday and apologized for the inconvenience.
So HOPEFULLY I'll have them tomorrow or Monday. |

I PM'd you - I think I found the knob - I just have to get it on there and make sure it's not the one from my brother's truck. I should have the extra time this week to pull the T-case out for you too.
You sure you don't want to take the transmission and engine too? ![]() |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
Update: I swapped the front and rear shackles today. So now I have shackles in the front that are 1" lift over stock and stock shackles in the rear. The truck looks a little funny because now the front is higher than the rear, but my shackle angle is awesome so I don't care for now. I'll get longer ones for the rear soon.
My jam nuts still didn't come yet, I hope they come tomorrow or Wednesday. I'll get pictures of the shackle angle soon. IDK when, so just keep your eyes peeled. |

What's wrong with my bumper? It's 3/8"x3"/5" box tube The crossover steer is great. I don't know how tight yet, still haven't really driven it on the road. |

I think I may just get a leather shift boot from like Wal-Mart and put it in. I know where the lever goes for 2HI 4HI and 4LO. But we'll see.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
Anyone know exaclty how difficult it will be to swap the T-cases? Like is there anything I'll need to know prior to actually doing it. Besides cutting a hole in the floor for the shift lever.

Trans/t-case fluids etc. would of course be something to keep in mind, but other than that and the floor cutting, it's fairly straight forward. |

Thats good to know, the Tcase just shares the transmission fluid with the transmission doesn't it?

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
I'll be fine with that. I just did a clutch on a YJ a last week and we didn't have problems jacking that transmission AND Tcase up. So this should be a little easier since it's just the Tcase.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
I have installed 2 of the crossover (JB raised steering) brackets the last week...We put one on my brothers d30 for his swap and I just loved it so I ordered one for mine and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I got it done last night and put a stock yj drag link on it that I had laying around (which fit pretty darn good!). I took it for a test drive and the bump steer is gone! And it is much tighter than the drop drag link...I am going to pick up a custom drag link tonight that I had made...It still isnt real tight but that is because the s10 has a slower ratio steering box than the yj so you have to move the wheel farther to make it move but it is much better...and you can feel the road much better! took some pictures of the install on my brothers so I will post them up in my thread soon...

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
It still should take trans. fluid and all you have to do is pull out the top plug on the rear of the tcase and pump it in until it overflows...I got my new drag link installed and adjusted and man what a difference! I had it made from 1" solid stock and it is pure beef!

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
I assume when I take the old Tcase off all the fluid in the transmission will come out. So anyone know exactly how many quarts I'll need total to fill both the transmission AND Tcase when I'm done?

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
the fluid from the trans will NOT come out when you take the tcase off!!...the only reason there would be fluid in there is if the output shaft seal in the trans is leaking or the input shaft seal of the tcase is leaking...under normal circumstances there should be no fluid in there!! And the tcase holds about 2 1/2 qts I think...

Idk about as tight as stock because the 33s are 12.5" wide. Thats another reason why I'm going with a tall skinny tire. The trails around me are really tight so I need the maneuverability.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
![]() I'm thinking the tranny drained at least 3 quarts out becuase it sat there pouring out fluid for a while, and after the T-case was pulled and I took the truck off the jack stands a bunch more came out. We're not talking leaky seal kinda drip, I'm talking a full F'n stream of fluid. ![]() I have the electrical wires for the VSS in case yours don't match up. That shift linkage was a BITCH to remove, the T-case came off easy - that shift linkage was something else alright. Last edited by ChrisInVT : 03-31-2008 at 11:24 AM. |
