Looks good Baggey, but I think Chris is right, your drivers side front tire doesn't seem to have any up travel and if the driveshaft is hitting the exhaust it can't go up. Sawzall Time!

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
Yea, the drive shaft hits the exhaust at ride height, like flat ground just sitting still. I barely rests on it. From what I'm told by locals there's a guy that is magical with exhaust work. So I'm gonna call him and see what he can do about moving it for me.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
it's just finding someone with a pipe bender that's hard around here. There's a bunch of shops that CLAIM they do exhaust work, but don't have a bender. I mean really, who does that?

isn't there a way to make your own out of random stuff lying around? Cause I'd make one and fix it myself if I could.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
You should be able to find exhaust pieces at the local auto parts store. Maybe get some of that flexy pipe and some elbows. It shouldnt be that hard. |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
I make all my exhaust systems from mandrel bent U's and sections of straight pipe that I get from Summit. Just cut out how much bend you need and weld them together.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
I think I'm just gonna go with flex pipe. It's simple, inexpensive, and if it doesn't work then most of the work is done if I go to an exhaust shop. Plus I can do it in a day by myself and be on the trails by afternoon.

No it doesnt. But if he cuts it back far enough he should be able to route it up far enough. |

when you say cut it back do you mean cutting it back under the motor or cutting it back closer to the header?

Cut it back farther under the motor. Between the flexy tube and a 45 elbow you should be able to pull it off. |

45 elbow? Where is that going?
I was planning on just getting flex pipe and making it work. Do you think you can get a picture and draw what you're talking about in paint? |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
I dont think flex pipe is gonna have enough flex in it to make the turn up to the collector(or whatever it is called). I'll get a pic of my exhaust and fix it up in paint tomorrow if I have the time. |

So that's what we did. I just got back like an hour ago. |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
Update: I went to the auto parts store today and got the pieces needed to fix my exhaust. I also won a sweet Trail Defence D30 cover for $80. As soon as that comes in the Detroit is gonna in.
So hopefully I can get the exhaust done on Wednesday and the diff cover won't be far behind it. |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
Update: Things didn't go as planned today. The exhaust needs to be done by a shop because of all the goofy bends and things in it. So instead of giving up I went for a short trail run and banged up the exhaust more and got some more flex shots.

You can never have too many pics of your truck flexing. Especially when you first get done. I would flex my truck out and then just stand there staring at it for like 10 mins thinking this is fvcking awesome, Fvck IFS.
Im sure everyone thats done the swap does the same exact thing ![]() |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
cancel it baggey, i got a easy fix.
i used flex pipe to come down off the manifold, up over the frame, ran the exhaust pipe between the rocker and frame, and put the exhaust on under the bed. total cost was like 80$ for true duals |

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
I'd rather just get it done by him. Problem in Vermont is it gets cold out quickly and my time is starting to slip away from me. I don't have a garage to work in and I don't have time time to get it done. So I'll just let this guy do it and not have true duals.

Dual exhaust really isn't going to make a difference power wise anyway. Mine has single exhaust, it just happens to be VERY big.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
There was no problem. We fully compressed/extended the rear suspension and the amount of travel was a lot less than the slip yoke can move. So we just cut the drive shaft and extended it with a piece of exhaust pipe (like Wrekd did) It's been fine ever since.
You knew that too btw Chris, remember "LOL Shaft"? |

I'll need to recalibrate my speedometer for my gears/tires to see what kinda mileage I'm getting
And so I can tell how fast I'm going on the road. |

I modified my VSSB with dip switches and you can set it to correct nearly any gear/tire combo.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS
There should be a bunch of 3 letter/number codes in your glovebox. I'll get the gearing codes and post em up and you'll be able to tell what gearing you had. They were probably 3.42's though.
Edit: GU6 is 3.42's. Theres just too many other codes to look through for the other ratios. But copy down all the 3 digit codes in your glovebox and it will tell you all the options your truck has. Once you get the codes you can use this to find out what which one means: http://73-87.com/chevy_ids/rpomenu2.htm Last edited by wrekd : 10-27-2008 at 12:16 AM. |
