Re: my first s10 sas
im not in to rock crawling.well ive never had anything that could rock crawl.its gonna be alot of mud and sand.and im not planing on going bigger than a 33 for awhile.the worst it will probably see is me geting flexed out in a mud pit.so it should hold up ok for awhile im hoping.

Re: my first s10 sas
oh yeah you should be totally fine with 33s with a good amount of horsepower and torque. I would shoot for 400hp at the crank, then regear the axles and that thing would shit and get!!! You might just get into rock crawling/trail riding, it looks like it should flex good if you get some longer travel shocks in there. I dont know if you know it, but i firmly believe that shocks are typically the factor that limits suspension travel. Take 5 mins and unbolt them, then flex it back out, you might be surprised.

Re: my first s10 sas
ya i thought it would be fine with 33s.might go bigger in the future.it realy depends on how much money i have and what kind of deals i find.it would be disgusting with 400 horsepower.i hadnt even thought about trying to get that much out of it but now that you say that much im gonna have to do it
.ya me flexing it out did make me realize that i need new shocks.actualy i need new shock mounts also.i havnt liked them from the start.they look to close to the axle like there gonna bottom out real easily.ill take some pics when i get the chance. |

Re: my first s10 sas
i dont think it would be that bad. With the loss of power through the drive line he'll probably end up with what about 325-350 horses? i think it will be plenty fine with it!

im pretty sure it was behind the c4 vettes. If you get one out of a fullsize, and build it with corvette internals, i think it would be enough for your sdime.

700r4 is the same tranny as the 4l60e beside the controlling method. 400 is pushing it with one but i can be done.

ya ive been talking to friends and family that know more about it than i do and they say 400 might be alittle much for what im gonna be useing it for.plus its gonna be alot of money so im gonna have to go at the speed of money.so i think i am gonna shoot for 300.it should be plenty enough to move the little s10 around

Re: my first s10 sas
I want to chime in on your power level ideas. 400 hp would be great, but with a small block you tend to end up with a more high strung power band with very little low end torque, which isn't exactly ideal for a 4wd. Don't get me wrong, fast is fun, but I think you would be far happier with a 350 or even a 383 that is built more for torque than hp. 3 V8's ago I had a 350 in mine that my dad had built specifically for heavier towing (for a small block anyway)that was by far the most enjoyable engine that I've ever had in it. It would roast the tires at will, snapped 3 axle shaft (one of which was a 9" Ford) and would run like a scalded dog. The only problem with it was the fact that I could go 85 miles on 12 gallons, but that was mostly due to my lack of right foot control. IMO torque is were it's at.............Can't wait to get that Duramax in there! ![]() |

Re: my first s10 sas
im totaly with you diesel.i dont want top speed i just want power.like the motor for my 454 should have close to 600 ft.lbs. of torque at the crank haha.horse power just seems to be a more "crowd" friendly term.im use to saying it around most of my friends there not that smart about cars so they know that big horsepower is good and thats about all they know.so i realy just want something like you saidyou had axle shredding earth moving power haha.and can i reserve the first ride when you put the duramax in please

Re: my first s10 sas
Yep, come on down, but the 1st ride won't be nearly as good as the ones after I get the EFI Live software.
According to the Duramax Forums 1/4 mile calculator, with the weight of my turd it will only need about another 200hp over the stock 310 to muster a low 12 second 1/4 mile. I'm smilin' just thinkin' about it! |

Re: my first s10 sas
i can agree on the horsepower stuff, if you could build it to have that much horse power and torque in a relatively low rpm then ill send you the 350 on my shop floor to get the same treatment!!! I think a 383 stroker would do very nice in that s10! Not to mention the fact that it would sound awesome coming from it!!!

thats gonna be amazing diesel.pjg1173 id love to have enough power to break parts at will haha.as soon as i get a v8 in there superflow ill do a 4x4 burnout for you haha(total carnage awaits).i still can decide wich transmission to use.try and keep the stock 5 speed,or go with a 700r4 or a turbo 400.if i went with te 700r4 or the 5 speed id be able to keep my tcase.if i go with the turbo 400 wouldnt i have to get a new tcase or would the one from the s10 fit?

The 400 and 4L80 trannies have a 32 spline output shaft and the 350, 700r4, and the 4L60 has a 27 spline shaft.

Re: my first s10 sas
They say that the later 700's with the huge K on the passenger side of the bell housing are good unit's, besides you will probably want it rebuilt anyway, so it can be beefed up to handle your engine. The only thing on the 700 that is computer controlled is the lock-up torque conterter.
If your going to spring for a SAC to run a tranny you might as well go for a 4L80E. |

Re: my first s10 sas
ya your right diesel.one of those computers cost over 1000.might as well get a good tranny to go with it.ive been looking alittle bit and i cant seem to find why you cant bolt the stock borg warner up to the 350.its the same bell housing.i just cant seem to get an answer on if the clutch and flywheel are diferent or what?

you may be able to swap over the clutch and flywheel off of the 4.3. Im not sure thou. I had tunnel vision again too, i didn't even consider the 4l80 tranny.

Re: my first s10 sas
advanced adapters has a conversion kit that is for the borg warner.this is what it says at the bottom of the page.
"NOTE: If you are going to use the stock Borg Warner T5 Manual transmission, this kit will include the bellhousing adapter, internal hydraulic release bearing, pressure plate, & clutch disc" why would you need a belhousing adapter if there the same.and the rest of the parts sounds just like normal stuff that you replace when you do a clutch job. |
