Re: my first s10 sas

i think if it were me, i would try and find a 4l80. I like automatics in my off road trucks, but if i had a muscle car i wanna be able to snag some gears!!! or even a 700r4. It should be able to handle the power, and pretty easy to find.

Re: my first s10 sas

im kind of thinking of this project in steps.its gonna be alot more money to go for a 4l80e cause id need a new tcase,a computer to run it and other misc. stuff.but it would be nice to have an automatic but i dont mind a manual.im still trying to get money for the engine haha.

Re: my first s10 sas

Plus your driveshafts would have to be changed with the new tranny and transfer.

I have/had a spare 4L80 laying around, but I'm starting to think that it got sent to the crusher in the trunk of whatever I had it stored in at the time.

Re: my first s10 sas

If it were mine I would probably bolt it up and try it. I don't have any experience with the T5, but as good as GM is about interchangability( is that even a word?) I wouldn't be surprised if it would work.

I'll do a little research on it and see if I can't find out.

Re: my first s10 sas

your awesome diesel.i can only think that the clutch might be a bigger diameter or somthing.but bolting up everything from the 4.3 sounds like it'd make it work

Re: my first s10 sas

Ok, from what I've just read, the T5 will bolt up to the 350. You have to have a correct manual 350 flywheel on it. Some recommend that a clutch from an Astro Van be used as they are stronger.

Now the bad. It is overwelmingly everyones opinion that the S10 T5 does not live long behind a 350, especially a strong one. They did say that you could convert the internals of a WC (world class) T5 from a Camaro or Mustang into the S10 T5 case and it will be stronger, but it will still have it's limits.

Now this is just what I've read, I don't personally have any experience with them, but it sounds like you would be better off with a different tranny.

Re: my first s10 sas

is that 350 built up now? or are you planning on building it? if its in stock form and i was you, i would do the clutch out of the astro van and try your luck. I just wouldn't bang on it too hard. I figure that would be the easiest way to get it running.

Its just like all the jeep guys saying that the dana 30 wont hold up to anything over 33s, but you can run larger tires on them just depends on how much you beat on it. I think its that and they dont know how to drive.

X2

Abuse is what kills them according to what I read. Most of what I found was drag race applications. It is already in there, so it sure ain't gonna hurt anything to break it before you pull it.

Re: my first s10 sas

thanks abunch diesel.i didnt even know that you could get astros in a manual haha.no superflow it isnt built.its not even running at the moment haha.i think(and its a big think) that he said it was a goodwrench 350.but its complete except for an intake and its got a spun baring but hey it was free.i was gonna build it to be real torque like i had been talking about.but i might do a milder build to start off with.

Re: my first s10 sas

id build back to stock, then upgrade later when you do in the stock drivetrain. Or just do a mild cam, port and polish job on the heads, and headers, and one mean sounding exhaust. I wanna see a cherry bomb extreme on that thing!!!!

anyway i got another question.so i was checking some stuff out on my s10 when i notice this

the bolts that hold my front drive line to my front diff were all loose.i didnt think much of it just glad that i saw it before something bad happened.but when i went to tighten them i realized that the nuts are actualy hiting the diffs input shaft and they wont tighten anymore.just wondering if anybody had any sugestions.i was thinking of grinding down the metal abit so i can tighten them all the way.

I think the bolts were supposed to be studs like on a connecting rod main cap. Those ones look like hardware store replacements and look like there backwards if they were studs like I think were there.

Re: my first s10 sas

ya its mostly atv trails but there's a good weekend of wheeling for trucks any thing from miled to wild , and for the most part my truck works really well at browns camp , only thing that sucked is some off the trails got really tight but ever one that was wheeling with me had a shorter wheel base then me,and has no problem with the tight spots , just took me a little longer and ya there thornbirds , i have heard all the hating about them , but i think i got a killer deal on them / trade a beat up 600 dollar go kart for them brand new (1300 summit) plus 200 cash. theres lots of videos of browns camp on youtube look up fire brake five tsf or i found this club up there wheeling some bad ass trucks and they have some good videos http://s956.photobucket.com/albums/a...keB9-25072.flv

Re: my first s10 sas

your tahoe would be alright on most of the trails up there , as long as you at least have posi in the rear , but then again it just depends on how far you want to push the limits of you ifs, i think if a the toyota f-gays can do the trail your tahoe should be fine.

Re: my first s10 sas

I like the 4.3l power plant. It really does have enough power for the s10 (except for the guys that want to go really fast). I mean we've towed boats, car trailer(with cars on them) and a ton of other things and its not really a slouch out of the hole with proper gearing of course. I like them!
