Well i have talked about it long enough, now after seeing people do it left and right, and also in the process of buying a bike for a driver while the truck is tore down, im gonna start collecting parts. My buddy just did his toyota on 1 ton axles wit 38.5 boggers, so he is gonna help me get this thing done and hopefully done right.
I wanna go with a d44 front and d60 reard, just cause my buddies at work say the 30 and 35 is just not big enough. It will probably never see mud or offroad, atleast not for a few years, so its gonna be built for bad weather basically. I just found a hd dana 44 and a dana 60 out of a 78 f250 with 4.10's for 400 bucks, that sound about ballpark range? 4.10 gearing is most common from what i have seen doing my RESEARCH...Axles come with leafs and calipers.... Once that is bought, i go onto wheels and tires. Im thinkin 35's. If im gonna go bigger axles, might as well go bigger tires. I am leaning towards a 35x20 combo, but how well do you think a black 20 inch kmc rockstar will hold up during salt and snow in ohio's winter? I would hate to spend the money on a nice 35x20 combo..then have to buy seperate wheels and tires for winter...but i guess you pay to play. Final questions. IF i go with these axles, and using a combo of these leafs and s10 leafs, do i need anything else high price wise? I know my bolt pattern will change, as well as brakes that i purchase for the truck, and im not worried about drive shaft tille winter time (I have about 7 months for that) but just seeing if there would be any other big purchases..i know just like bagging a truck...the swap nickels and dimes you to death...thanks all. Im ready to start collecting parts! |

$400 bucks for those axles seem a little on the high side.

Re: Finally starting to get serious on SAS!
400 for a d44 and d60 around here is a steal...I think it depends on which state you live in...if most of the trucks in your state are rotting off of the road because of salt then there will be many more axles and the price will be low...around here the only way a car goes to scrap is if it wont pass smog or if it is wrecked! Therefore the parts are much more expensive...you can hardly get a junkyard d44 shaft for under $80 around here!

Re: Finally starting to get serious on SAS!
Sounds like a good price to me also. You may find them cheaper one day and you may not, so if your happy with that price then that's all that matters.
The only things that I see that you will need besides what you have mentioned are shocks, steering linkage, drop pitman arm, and brake lines. You may also want to check into fender flares, those full width axles are going to stick out alot. For reference my truck has full width axles with 9" wide wheels and bushwacker cut-outs and the outside edge of the flares are centered on the tires. |

Re: Finally starting to get serious on SAS!
Around me there only like $200 and i live in PA right by the ohio line. There on craigslist every week for $200. I picked mine up in ohio for $250 and the dana 60 is locked and the dana 44 had all new u-joints and balljoints.

Re: Finally starting to get serious on SAS!
well...i emailed guy on axles...my father and i had a hell of a heart to heart yesterday and he has pretty much talked me out of buying a bike. I gotta respect his and the familys opinions..especially with buying a house..i dont wanna dump the responsibility on him cause some grandma pulled it infront of me and made me a vegetable.
Anyways, im in strong considerations now of going to get a personal loan and doing this truck the way i have always wanted. I am also crossing my fingers that diversified creations needs a non-z still to try out their 8 inch lift on somethin. If i get the loan, and the 5k budget, the truck should be nice! ![]() |

Re: Finally starting to get serious on SAS!
i dunno about taking out a loan just to lift your truck. personally i wouldnt do it til i had the cash.
sucks buying parts cause they're so expensive. but id rather buy a few here and there, versus taking out a loan |

Re: Finally starting to get serious on SAS!
well doing it cash it would take awhile to get money together...i can pay the loan off in roughly three months working the overtime.

Re: Finally starting to get serious on SAS!
I've been down this road, and I wouldn't max out funds just to lift a truck like this. Spend all your money on it, then *BAM*, one unlikely part breaks and you're broke and don't have your ride. I would seriously just buy your parts piece by piece. If you can pay off a loan in 3 months, you can be patient enough to wait 3 months to have all the parts, do the swap, AND save money. I, honestly, don't say this for any other reason than I feel it is the absolute truth. Don't make a recreational build take priority over your finances. If it isn't a MUST, be patient and save yourself the possible strife. |
