Re: Dana 30 axle
![]() I don't know how your fab skills are but mine isn't that great but I manage to make my own high steer with some scrap steel. If you can afford it you may want to save yourself the trouble and just buy "new" from a Jeep suppliers. I think the cheapest was about $150. I've had mine for several months with no issues. If your wondering why I went with a high steer being only SUA is because my jeep drop pitman arm was only like 3" away from my front diff. I then switched back to a regular pitman arm to gain more clearance but then my drag link angle was weird and I experienced some bump steer. After installing the high-steer I got the angle I have now the trucks steering behaves much better. I also had to lenthen the drag link a bit. Last edited by sewerrat : 07-23-2009 at 01:46 AM. |

Re: Dana 30 axle
Yeah I have a spring under set up too. So I think this is what I am going to invest in...It would really help my bumpsteer problems and probably give me the lock to lock that I should have...thanks again |

Re: Dana 30 axle
none yet, I have been driving it trying to decide what I want to do first...an 8.8 or a highsteer setup money is tight, but I think getting this bumpsteer fixed should be my first priority...ill keep you up dated

Re: Dana 30 axle
Ok maybe someone can help me out here...I got that JB4x4 half highsteer set up on my truck...which requires you to cut the steering link in half and extend it...but I dont feel that is very safe...so....
I want to make a new one out of some DOM tubing, but I still want to use tierod ends instead of heim joints so I dont have to have anything drilled out...does anyone know where I can find either DOM bungs for the jeep tie rod ends or somewhere that sells tierod ends witht he bungs? Any help is appreciated, thanks |

Re: Dana 30 axle
blue torch fab carries that stuff. If you dont feel like making one you could order the rocky ridge steering set up. It dom and is the correct length to use with the highsteer arm and you get the dom tie rod also.

Re: Dana 30 axle
Ok so I brought my truck home the other day, and now I have an issue...I really dont know what exactly it is so I dont know if anyone can help me...but...when driving the truck on flat surface or up hill...i get this strange tinking noise...seems to be coming from the drivers side rear...but if I stomp on the skinny pedal it goes away...and if I am going down hill it goes away...now I drove it about 40 miles like this, and it doesnt seem to have caused a problem anywhere but its rather annoying...so anyone have any insight on what it could be?

Re: Dana 30 axle
fords used some kind of ring around the rear gears. there should be a sensor hooked up to the top of the housing and there will be a ring with teeth on the carrier. I think the purpose of it was abs/ speed sensor. They have been know to make a noise. Pull the sensor out and see whats up or pull the sxle cover.

Re: Dana 30 axle
so if I pull that sensor and drive it would it prevent it from making that noise? I mean I know I cant leave it out, but I have to figure something out with it...I mean would that help me pin point the noise...if thats what it is then what can I do about it?

Re: Dana 30 axle
Ok, so I think I might have officially reached that point...I am considering selling my truck...as much as I would love to keep it as a nice woods toy...I just dont have the patience or money to finish it...but the good thing is I have pretty much everything to finish it.
New transfer case with jeep output shaft...front drive shaft...I have a set of bushwacker fender flares for a 2wd blazer... The truck itself has a 93 Dana 30 front axle (4:10) and a 96 explorer 8.8 (4:10) It has a set of Crager soft 8's with decent 31x10.5x15. I have an extra set of front fenders and a hood. Truck runs and drives and if bought for PA will need inspection. I know I should have posted this in the classifieds but this is just to test the waters. I am looking to get $2500 out of it. Truck has 160,000miles on it. Any questions feel free to ask. |

Keep working on it while your trying to sell it. It'll be worth more done and easier to sell turn key and drive away. Once it's done you'll also have options

Re: Dana 30 axle
Believe me i was so sick of workin on my junk the first time it broke after wheeling i let it sit for a month before i fixed it. I was fed up with working on it. Now i have everything set (besides the little things) and i can go wheel and drive it home it makes me feel that my work and skills make the grade. the sence of pride you will get when someone asks you what is that and who built it, will more than make up for the pain in the ass time you spent on it.
