I think 97 & up Mountaineer and 95 & up Explorer disc brake rearends are what you would want to look for, if I am not mistaken.

Re: Dana 30 axle

Yeah I am getting a 96 explorer axle with 4.10's some of them even had the shitty traction loc...(posi??) not bad for a start

but you need to get the yoke too and then get the adapter to link it to the s10 shaft

Sure.

I think I run 1 bastard joint, but the rest of the yokes I had put on the driveshafts when I had them made. I can't remember it has been so long.

Re: Dana 30 axle

the joint really isnt a bastard joint. its readily avaible at the parts stores and was used on some older chevy cars. your local auto zone will hav ethen instock.

I'm not certain, but I think that still wouldn't de-classify it as a bastard joint.
Last thing I knew, it was simply a joint that accommodated 2 different size yokes.

I have an older aerostar (I think) yoke on my 8.8 that uses a stock s10 u-joint and cap straps...it doesnt have the big round flange that came with the explorer rear end...

Yep and it didn't have to change the rear driveshaft and Napa stocked the U-joint.

Looks like you need to jerk out that remote filter and buy the adapter to mount the filter on the block.

Re: Dana 30 axle

I just bought ones from quadratec. Replace heavy duty ones for a yj with stock or upgraded springs.... hopefully they will fit. i think they are rancho ubolts with a RS720 Part number. When i placed them around the d30 there looks like there will be plenty of treads there....

Re: Dana 30 axle

Go down to Wilkes-Barre Spring. Right next to Norm's Pizza. I forget the name of the street though. But its right next to Norms. You'll probably need 2.75" axle tube(measure the tubes just to make sure) 9/16's u-bolts, around 8" long. Should be about $10 a piece.

Re: Dana 30 axle

Alright so after making a 7 hour round trip to reynoldsville to pick up my new front end, I ended up gettin back home around midnight. Didnt want to piss anyone off with an impact gun. I figured I would wait till today to finish what needs to be done.

Well I woke up early and needed to finish my steering...now my issue is I cant get the nut off from under the pitman arm. I dont know what size socket it is. Anyone with any input would be awesome!

Second for now, until I get my 8.8, I am running 3 inch lift shackles in the rear. Well I went to get them out today and ran into 2 problems.
A.) The gas tank
B.) The stupid charcoal canister
So now my issue and question is here do I cut the bolt off and just get new ones or what else could I really do?? haha

But for now I have the Noma Highrider fenders on the truck, still need to get a new core support and a passenger headlight then the rest of the front end will go on. Looking good and coming together just want to get this F*er finished.

Re: Dana 30 axle

I took the nut off of my pitman arm today. I used a 1 1/4" socket. I cleaned all the s$!t off of it and tapped it on with a hammer. Didn't tear up a thing. just had to put it back on the shaft to get it out of the socket. Now i just have to get a puller to get the pitman arm off....

Ok got that nut off I smashed a 32mm socket onto the nut, works good enough for me. Now I need to wait till my off days to get a pitman arm puller because smashing with a hammer didnt work too well...lol...but I am getting there...slowly

Yeah, i wouldn't reccommend smashing on the sector shaft with a hammer. You're just begging to break something doing that

Re: Dana 30 axle

Well thats not my problem anymore...

I had rear lift shackles to put on the truck for now, and the bottom bolts were seized up. so moral I cut apart old stock shackle and heated up the leaf spring to get the bushing out...well there is a little metal sleeves that runs outside the bushing...yeah that is seized up inside the end of the leaf spring...anyone have any suggestions??
