Re: '97 Stepside SFA'd

No, definitely not a kit. All custom.
I would recommend researching for quite a good while before you even attempt to start an axle swap. I had a guy I knew do the actual welding and what not, mainly because the lack of equipment.
It is a pretty serious modification, so just make sure you take it that way.

To give you direction, consider what the intentions and purpose of the truck is first, and that will narrow your choices a lot more.

Re: '97 Stepside SFA'd

Thanks High Ridin, I just took it to see the difference of a fairly lifted and really lowered truck.

Yeah, it didn't turn out too bad. Usually as long there is a good amount of light, but not too much, they will turn out alright. We'll get some more good ones at some I'm sure.

Unfortunately, no. With the accounting classes I am in at the moment, I don't have much time, and my phone is the only thing that I have that takes pictures - it isn't good if there isn't much light.

But in the next little while I'll try to go to one of the only little "wheelin'" spots around and goof off.
I'm not a huge fan of just mud, so good, decent, accessible, legal places to wheel aren't terribly numerous around the area. At least as far as most of the guys up here know.

I'll see what I can do soon, cause I know the truck will flex like it's nobody's business.

Re: '97 Stepside SFA'd

Waiting on my Bilstein shocks to come in to replace the rear Ranchos. Got a pair of 5150s for an awesome price, so I'll try to post pictures of them when they get in.

It will be nice to finally have Bilsteins all the way around.

Oh and I forgot to mention, on my last full tank of gas I averaged about 17.5 mpg. I won't complain about that.

Seriously guys, someone has to need some stock parts. Brakes, a-arms, differential, axle shafts, etc.?

Need them gone. Any reasonable offer won't be turned down.

The new rear shocks just came in. Hopefully should have them in tomorrow. You can see them there beside my boot...and that's when they are collapsed. I might get a fully extended picture of them before I put them in, if I remember to.

I could use some extra C clips that hold the axle shafts in place for the 7.5" 10 bolt(just put a mini spool in. Had to "customize" the stock ones to get them to fit). Also if you've got stock CV axles that are in good shape that you could throw to my cause I wouldn't mind

I do have the c-clips, and the cv shafts I have are both on good shape I believe, with one only having been run for about 3 or 4 months.
Make me a reasonable offer and they're yours as soon as next week.

Re: '97 Stepside SFA'd

They shouldn't, seeing as they are a fair bit higher in relation to the axle. Plus with the tire size, it would have to be an odd situation.
I may end up welding a piece on the front of the shock tabs to prevent something like that, but we'll see. I don't particularly think I'd even need it.

Re: '97 Stepside SFA'd

ive seen goofy things...shocks better protected than that, with a 40"+ tire, damaged shocks. but then again, thats probably like a 5% chance.

Welding a piece on the bottom of the tabs might help. But then again, I may just move the location of the shocks somewhat if I 4-link it this summer.

The Bilsteins made a huge difference on the rear, to me anyway.
Driving up the mountain roads pretty smoothly in 5th gear is nice.

Re: '97 Stepside SFA'd

In North Carolina? Nawww.
Other than the fact that my uncle is a trooper as well, I have asked several (they are usually the "hardcore" cops of the state) and they said that unless a truck was so tall or modified in a way that it was blatantly dangerous or causing issues with other cars, they could care less, they have more things to worry about.

Well it isn't anything too special. It's always a work in progress.
Hopefully this summer I'll have the plans for the rear suspension done and be getting ready to fab it in there.
We'll see I guess.

Re: '97 Stepside SFA'd

Ok, someone has to need some replacement parts.
I'm back at my brother's house again and need to get this stuff gone.

-CV shafts
-hub assemblies
-tie rod ends/pitman arms
-3.23 and up carrier in perfect condition (if anyone wants to give a welded carrier a shot without ruining the one they have, etc.)
-brake shoes and rotors
-calipers
-modified A-arms for suspension lift
-etc

Make a reasonable offer and it's yours.
Seriously.
