01-S10 2001 S10 SAS Build (LOTS O PICS!!!)

I figured I’d go ahead and start one of these. That way all the info is in one place.

I had a Trailmaster 5 inch suspension lift kit and 2in Body lift with 33’s

I sold the lift to ThatOneGuy on the forum

I was really getting tired of replacing suspension parts every 6 months so I decided to start collecting parts for SFA swap about 6 months ago I picked up a D44 and a 12 bolt out of what I was told a jeep Wagoneer. After a little research and some help from the guys on the S10 forum I found out the D44 and 12 bolts are both out of a wide track FSJ.

Cleaned up the rear axle a bit

Slowly getting all the parts together I ordered Rough Country 3” waggy lift springs, and the Sky Manf. S10 Front Hanger kit. I found a set of Flat top knuckles off Craigslist for 40$, sent the passenger side off to Parts Mike to get Tapped and milled to accept a High Steer arm.

3 weeks ago I figured I would start tearing the old lift out and start mounting everything up

Anyone know what these holes are for? A winch plate?

very nice project, should turn out pretty good, word of advice before you paint the crossmember, box it in fully.

Looks good man. nice clean work.

Thanks 96, I got the shackle mount idea from you. I used a 7" piece of channel iron then cut off on of the sides. But I didn't like haveing the gap there.

Soooo I'm sitting in the airport, waiting for my flight to go back home. And I was browsing craigslist for an astro van steering box. I found one out of a 1987. Would that fit?? Or should I keep looking?

Re: 01-S10 2001 S10 SAS Build (LOTS O PICS!!!)

soooo one thing thats been bugging me is im thinking the dana 44 front I have, is going to be a bit to narrow to use with the 12 bolt rear. i have the D44 still disasembled but from inner C to innner C its measuring 49.25". does anyone know how wide a waggy D44 fully assembled from WMS to WMS? the 12 bolt rear i have is 65" from WMS to WMS.

heres a pic for Shits and gigs

thanks for the help fellas

Re: 01-S10 2001 S10 SAS Build (LOTS O PICS!!!)

wow that really doesnt make any since lol

i guess im asking if some one can tell me if i have a widetrack D44 or a narrow track D44. if its the wide track then the 12 bolt rear i have will be perfect but if its a narrow track i need to go to the junck yard and snag the D44 i saw in the isuzu rodeo i saw today lol

Re: 01-S10 2001 S10 SAS Build (LOTS O PICS!!!)

looking threw your pics your front end looks like a narrow trac so if i where you i would grab that izuzu dana 44 they are 58" or 60" the narrow wagoneer is right at 60 wms to wms, if you want i will grab a tape and massure from ball joint to ball joint on the top c and let you know.

ok just messured both of my wagoneer 44s (60")and from the top balls center to center it comes in at 47" so that should give you an idea if it narrow or not

also the izuzu 44 will be stronger the your 12 bolt / just in the scence that it not a c clip axle and the axle shafts are huge also there rated as strong as a 9.5 14 bolt.

Nice build!

Be glad that it is the narrow track, I had a widetrack in mine back in the day and it was nearly impossible to find long side axle shafts for it until I figured out that the late '70's Ford D44 shafts would work.

Ohhh I'm glad, I really didn't like how wide the 12 bolt was. The tires would stick out. Like a mofo if I would keep it

only crappy part about that year is that it was set up for coils so you have a little more cuting to do.

Re: 01-S10 2001 S10 SAS Build (LOTS O PICS!!!)

i found a guy that lives in Chico, about an hr away. hes going to bring the axle by today, he wants 200$ im going to pay him a little extra for gas and what not. soooo today should be a pretty productive day. i just ordered
brake lines, ball joints,a high clearance U bolt kit for the Waggy 44 since I'm going spring under. wheres a good / cheap place to buy bilstein 5100's? Bad news is I'm leaving again in 2 weeks for San diego, good news its only for a week. I'm hoping to have everything done except wheels and tires by the time i leave.
