Started Painting the Blazer (Cont.)

Hey Guys.
The blazer was slow coming for a while cause I got really frustrated.
I got to the final coat on the hood, and wetsanded it from 1000-2000 then buffed the hell out of it and could get rid of all the small scratches from sanding.
So I put another coat on and only wetsanded with 2000 then buffed the hell out of it over about a weeks period, different compounds, different pads, differnt buffers. Nothing.
Seemed like the paint was just to soft, which made me think I had done something wrong, well since I couldnt figure out what I did wrong to fix it, I decided to go in a different direction.
Oh and i also got some free tires. 31x10.50X15 BFG KOs with over half tread on them.
Here are the pics.

All taped up and ready.
I realized about halfway through the passenger side I should use news paper to fill in the big spots not tape, cause it goes through tape quickly and apparently painters tape is around 7 bucks a roll.
Oh and just in case anyone needs a canoe Bass Pro is having a sale.

This is what Im gonna hit her with.

And here she is after the first coat.
I put it on real thin and its a PITA. It take so long, About 3 hours for a thin coat. But thats not the bad part, mixing it is a SOB. Its so thick. Its like a rubber coating with big clobs of sand in it which you have to break up then stir. My arm is sore this morning from mixing yesterday.

Gonna try and get the second coat on, on my next day off, maybe monday, then spray bomb the jambs, and go pick up my new rear window since I broke the last one.
Story behind that.
Brakets that bolt to the window where loose causing it to leak water, so I tightened them down just a little. (Which was apparently too much). Then I lowered the window down about an inch short of where it rests and let it go, well as soon as it hit, it COMPLETELY SHATTERED. This biggest piece still stuck together was no bigger than an 2 square inches.
It was a HUGE UNGODLY MESS.
SO whatcha think.

Also not sure if I posted the original thread here, but I was painting it with a roller and some rustoleum, I couldnt get the shine after the wetsanding back.

I just pasted this from my other forum.

Re: Started Painting the Blazer (Cont.)

That is looking real good.
If you are going to want to keep that herculiner black you might want to spray some black paint over it and probably even some clear on top of that. That stuff fades very quickly out in the sun. I started noticing fade on mine after like a month.

My friend's grandfather did the whole entire bed of his S10 in this stuff, it's the only thing holing it together. We've been trying to convince him to do the rest of the truck but he won't bite.

Re: Started Painting the Blazer (Cont.)

almost 1 gallon .... $120 at napa...get some sandpaper cause the scotchbrite takes too long and is not enough, also acetone is needed for cleanup/prep.

i did the fenders, under the flares, the flares, doors inside/out, rockers, and door jams.

i still have maybe a quart in the can left over to do the tailgate bottom, inside and out, and bumper. and hopefully enough for the spare tire carrier too.

EDIT: and everything i did was 2 coats as reccomended

ehh....I would much rather have paint on my truck then take the time to do that. Shitty/original paint makes a trail truck too you know

Re: Started Painting the Blazer (Cont.)

ya my next bush truck (80's s10 blazer 2 door, just gotta go pick it up) is grey and im not even gonna paint it... piss on it.. i have slowed down on the wheeling of my 93 ranger as its falling apart(broken leaf springs, water pump etc) and i dont wanna scratch it up too much... hell on my s15 i just took some red paint in a rattle can to it as i had to do some bodywork on the hood and fenders then we primed it so i just rattled can the whole truck.. that thing saw (tis broken too) more dirt then pavement, i did take some of that assphault undercoating stuff to the frame and i like it. its got the same texture as jweller's black stuff but not as shiny... .. there's a few little dirtbike trails that the s10 blazer will meet when its in my hands... hehe.. around here its all mountain running, so you cant be scared about scratching the paint.. most people out here they have their daily driver then they have a few beater trucks to trash on...

Re: Started Painting the Blazer (Cont.)

What do yall think it will take to fit those 31s?

2" BL 1" Tbar crank and shackles out back?

Also what backspacing should i run on the Soft 8s?
I think most of you guys are running 4", I think thats the deepest I found.

Oh and Im back to work on it, got the hood back on, hit a few jams, and prepped her up for her next coat.

Only problem is the herculiner takes too long to apply so Im gonna need a whoel day since I have to do two coats on the hood since i didnt hit it the first go around.

Plus the jams are taking forever cause this truck is unbelievable dirty, it everywhere, I guess a decade as a ranch truck and no washes will do that.

Re: Started Painting the Blazer (Cont.)

Finally got off my butt and did the last coat of herculiner and hit the hood. I started putting it back together, and realized I didnt hit the cowl. Ill do the cowl my next day off along with the mirrors and the bowtie in the grille.
Here is a few pics, after putting the trim back on I realized I got some primer on the door trim, but atleast now its solid herculiner and no primer/old paint shows through.

Spraybombed the Jams

Today at the shop Im gonna buy all new bulbs, my rear shackles and hopefully tonight Ill order my body lift.
Coming together nicely.
