Re: Few Questions
go to the liftin it general section. there is a thread on there that explains all of them. But IFS is Independent Front Suspension and SFA is Solid Front Axle.

Re: Few Questions
I was looking to do a 2" rough country suspension lift im not sure if i want to do a body lift.. i dont want to lift it to much so it doesnt look right. would a body lift be required to run 31's? will there be any rubbing with just the 2" SL?

Re: Few Questions
Don't do the 2" suspension lifts. All they do is crank the Tbars more than they should. With the mystery lift (Tbar crank, rear shackles or AAL and 2" body lift) you can run 31x10.50x15s on stock rims with very little rubbing on the frame (at full lock) and generally no rubbing on the fenders. If you use aftermarket wheels (with less backspacing), you won't rub the frame but you'll probably have to trim the fenders to keep from rubbing.

Re: Few Questions
i was planning on buying the cragar soft 8's. How much money would be spent doing the mystery lift you think? and how much total lift is there including the 2" BL?

Re: Few Questions
Less than $400. Much less than that if you shop around and/or get creative. The late 2nd gen body lift is a bit under $300 but if you look around you can find one for just over $200. Or you can use the early 2nd gen body lift (basically the same kit minus the lift bracketry for the rear bumper) which is just over $200 brand new. Again, you can save a few bucks by shopping around. (I bought a brand new body lift kit unused for my '96 (RIP) for less than $100 when I had it.)
The rear shackles will run you anywhere from $75-$140 brand new. Once again, you can find some unused brand new ones cheaper if you shop around. (Seeing a pattern here? ) I just bought a pair of unused brand new 2" shackles for $60 shipped. I don't know how much an AAL (Add A Leaf) is as I've never priced one.The Tbar crank is free if you don't count the alignment afterwards. You should have an alignment done every few years regardless so count that cost in as regular maintenance. Total lift for the mystery lift is approximately 3 1/2" front and 4" rear. You may have to trim your fenders slightly if you go with the aftermarket wheels unless they are the same width and backspacing as stock. Nothing wrong with stock wheels, m8. Re: Few Questions
thanks for all the info! Since i have a regular cab truck would i have to do some kind of trimming to the shifter or something? (saw something in another thread about that). i just turned 16 and this s10 is my first vehical i paid 750
$ for it with a 4.3l v6 vortex 5 speed 86,000mi. I plan on buying the cragar soft 8's eilther way and i just want to do between a 3-4" lift not to much so it doesnt look outta place. i didnt want to do to much trimming. could you help me out with a parts list for the mystery lift? thanks alot again. |

Re: Few Questions
dang that looks like its 2wd, just by the wheels. Ill bet yours is a manual shift yeah? No problems with that, actually its better. Heres what you do. I imagine you want to run what 31s maybe like that other guy on here and run narrow 33s? Do a 3" body lift, crank the t-bars(plenty of threads on how you do that to a safe right to get the 1.5 inchs), and add some lift shackles in the rear. It will be plenty for 31s and you wont have to regear your axles. I would also talk to Joey at 4wd Factory, a vendor for s10 forum, and he can hook you up with a 2" lift kit from Rough Country, which was what i was going to get before i decided to go solid front axle swap. That will give you about 5" with the body lift, and it will be plenty.

Re: Few Questions
How much off roading do you do? nothing too serious i hope? if not, the bfgs will suffice for the most part. When i said floor shift, i meant the transfer case. We had a blazer with the same wheels and it was a manual shift transfer case, that the only reason i stated that it looked 2wd.

Re: Few Questions
nah deff not. I think they are 28's but im only doing that from memory. You can mess around with metric tire conversions, just type it in to google. I know the tires on my tahoe are 31s and they are 265 70 r16, thou. Those BFG tires would be good tires for you. 31 x 10.50 on a 15" rim.

Re: Few Questions
i put 31s on mine, and with the cragars you wont have to worry rubbing the frame if they stick out any. You may have to do some fender trimming to get them so that they wont rub when you flex or turn a and hitting a bump.

Re: Few Questions
i wouldn't even bother with 30s, purchase the body lift and 31s then do the 2" suspension. If you get the off-set cragars, you might not even rub the body. That would be what i would do.
Or you can cut all that IFS shit out and throw in a solid axle! ![]() |

Re: Few Questions
Yeah man, you should be able to run 31s no problem. That what i had on my blazer, 2" body and 31s on the stock wheels. I only rubbed the frame since i had no offset. It may at times hit your fender, but they are few and far between.
