Broke a cab mount bolt

I bought a 2000 s10 awhile back, and just rescently got a 2in body lfit for it. Well i followed the crappy instructions best i could, i had to take the whole front end off.

I finally get far enough to start putting the blocks on and the front bolts came out easy well the bolt wright before the passenger side tires decides it wants to be an asshole, split in half leaving the top part still in. I was so pissed smoked about 5 cigarettes, and put everything back together till inlaw can help me.

Is there any easy way to get the top half of the broken bolt out, with out hacking in slashing? Here's the kicker if you guys wanna laugh, I realized after going to town I may have been tightening it It is 4wd btw

Re: Broke a cab mount bolt

damn that sucks. It happens to all of us man. the only way i see that you is that you jack up the cab and get a tourch and vise grips on the bolt, then loosen it.

Re: Broke a cab mount bolt

Try the heat and visegrips trick, it normally works. If not you might have to pull the carpet up and cut a flap over the captured nut so you can get some oil directly on the top so it soaks in. Its a PITA but once you put the carpet back only you will ever know it was done.

Re: Broke a cab mount bolt

I had similar issues with my truck since it was all rotted out when I purchased it. If you have a welder (or a friend that does) get a LARGE nut, we're talking like 2" or bigger. Weld the nut onto the shaft of the bolt. Let it cool down and then remove the bolt. The heat from the welding along with the extra torque of the larger nut will ease in the removal of the sunovabitch.
