5" BDS or 6"Superlift-ZR2

Hey guys, really close to purchasing a ZR2. Once I have one I'm debating between the 6" superlift and 5"BDS lift.

Can anyone provide input on the pros and cons of each kit and whether 33x12.50s will fit with just the suspension lift? What about mileage on these trucks, should I be alarmed buying one with around 100k even though it runs good?

Are the bilstein shock upgrades available on the superlift worth the extra 250$?

thx

Re: 5" BDS or 6"Superlift-ZR2

the shocks were worth it with my 5 inch bds...and if i can fit 33's with minor trimming on a non zr2 blazer then you will be able to....

the 6 inch requires cutting and welding...the 5 inch is cutting and bolt on..

the shocks ride great...thousands of miles later and they still ride great!!

Re: 5" BDS or 6"Superlift-ZR2

The shocks are def worth the extra coin. The only con I had with my superlift kit was the fact parts were missing and waiting a week to recieve them direct from superlift.

Re: 5" BDS or 6"Superlift-ZR2

How do your trucks run with the lifts and the big tires? I'm a little worried that a big lift with the extra weight with the tires and wheels will really slow the truck down with the V6.

Alot of guys do the K&N and a chip but is it really enough?

I'm just thinking taking on a steep hill almost straight up and not having the power to get up.

The BDS seems to be better, according to those on a ZR2 website. Easier install and the design is alot better for your front end from what I hear.

Re: 5" BDS or 6"Superlift-ZR2

If you install an IFS lift kit, the truck should ride fairly close to stock - just there's a higher center of gravity. For mileage, if you regear to 4.10 with 33's, you may even be able to increase your gas mileage due to type of driving, driving style, and so on....

Re: 5" BDS or 6"Superlift-ZR2

what about fitment with 33x12.50's on a 5 or 6'' lift? Will I be rubbing and how much of the fender will need to be worked?

Re: 5" BDS or 6"Superlift-ZR2

i had to run a 2wd s10 off-set wheel with my bds kit...with my stock 15's i cut a brake line

but with just the 33's and a bds 5 inch i had to trim a good deal out of my fenders and beat the shit out of the rest of it...

Yes, pics would be awesome.

Will I still have to trim with 4.5 backspacing on the rim? If trimming is involved can you explain the degree of the trimming or pounding to not make it look rough?

OrangeSonoma-What do and don't you like about your BDS kit. Every shop I have called here in Phx does not carry or install these.

thx for the assistance as I'm transitioning from the Mustang 5.0 world into the realm of flyin hi

Looks sweet, nice trucK!

Are those the Cragar Soft 8's? How much backspacing do the rims have?

Did the tires rub after you switched to the rims with more backspacing?

No such thing. It's amazing how many people are out there selling stuff they don't have a clue about. If it's a 6" its a Super lift.

Re: 5" BDS or 6"Superlift-ZR2

YEP it is. 4wdfactory has them for lil less, but not much. I am not sure if he is a sponsor, but 4WDjoey (reen name on here) works/owns/manages it. You can send him a message if you want.

IMO you can go SFA for that price and be alot better. it wont ride as good, but your frt end will be stronger.

Re: 5" BDS or 6"Superlift-ZR2

Superlift shocks aren't that good, I've had 3 lifted trucks, BDS are better, and the people running the tires that rub well it's the rims. Stock wheels are 7" with a 6" backsapce. If you run those steelies with 8" and 3" outside that's why they rub. Go with some higher dollar wheels like Walker Evans 17" rims or Welds and you can get a 17" or 18" with more backspace like 5.5 or 6", and do yourself a favor and buy longer stainless steel brake lines for anything instead of stretching or "relocating" your stock rubber brake hoses, you will be happier. And safer. If you run a body lift it will help as well.
