trying to lift a stock s10

I have a stock 97 s10 2wd and i want to get it lifted 6" just for appearance and some very very light trail riding. I was wondering if you guys know the best way to go about it and where to get the parts. I plan on doing a 2" body lift but thats later on down the road. Im on a limited budget so if i can do one thing at a time that would be hella cool. Id really like to do a v8 swap also because of the little 4 cyl.

why would chevrolet put a 4 cyl in a truck? it gets bad mpg anyways why not just go with 4.3's? anyways thanks in advance.

i was thinking just getting 3" spindles, larger springs, shocks, and dont know about the rear yet. any sugguestions on what to get first?

Re: trying to lift a stock s10

if your going for 6 inches of lift the best for the back would be a axle flip

Re: trying to lift a stock s10

You can buy Aim spindle from eBay for $237 shipped, then buy 2" lift coils. As for rear, you can do 3" lift shackle and you get your height you want.

Re: trying to lift a stock s10

wheres the best place to get these parts at a great price? and what does SOA mean? Im guessing to put the axles below the springs... thanks guys.

I plan on getting the spindles first, then springs and after that do something with the rear. Id really like to do a rear only air bag setup

ohh and a 2 inch body lift is on the list also.

Any reliable but affordable websites linked for all mentions parts would be greatly welcomed. also if theres anything else i would need mention it or forever hold your peace!!

Re: trying to lift a stock s10

SOA - Spring Over Axle
Parts - Ebay and or Google. Both are beautiful things
ABTS - Axles Below The Springs

Re: trying to lift a stock s10

If i were doing this again, Id do spindles, 3"body lift and shackles to level the rear. Do a nice looking trim and some 32's or try 33x10.50's.
Spring ride is bouncy and not nearly like stock.

Re: trying to lift a stock s10

yea i would recomend the same as 992drjimmy. The ride gets a little ruff with some heavy springs and with the 4.3 V6 u will only get from .5 to 1.5 inches of lift out of them. not worth it.

I should be doing a 2 inch BL in the spring so my truck will sit close to yours 992drjimmy. I wanna run some 32/11.5s

Re: trying to lift a stock s10

Dont mean to jack the thread but does any have or have a picture of a s10 with like a 5-6" suspension lift PLUS a 3" bodylift? So like 3"spindles, 2-2.5" coils with a 3" bodylift.

If so, picture? =D I'm curious as to what it looks like, especially how high it looks.

Re: trying to lift a stock s10

Stock is easier to put it back in lol, I'd take your 2" springs off your hand though.

Re: trying to lift a stock s10

Since i dont have a garage yet. Itll probably wait till spring before i put stock springs in and also probably wait till i get a 4.11 or 4.10 which ever it is rear end. Before going back to sua and a lift shackle.

Re: trying to lift a stock s10

You can buy 4.10 rear end from 2.2, same rear end(7 5/8) as 4.3 but different gearing.

ALL 2.2 has 4.10 from ALL extended cab OR Automatic, so if you looking for parts to pull. Then slap on locker and you're good to go.

ZR2 is 4" wider per side BUT only 3.73 unfortunately(4.10 would been better choice factory).

Let me be sure i understand correctly. All EXT cab 2.2's have 4.10. And any automatic 2.2 has 4.10. The 3 yards in my town never seem to have a second gen s10. One place has a burned s10 from front to end of cab. So can read codes on sticker.

Correct. It came standard on every 2.2 auto or ext cab. Reason is that because 2.2L isn't as fast to get moving in ext or auto trans so 4.10 helps out. 2.2/5spd/reg cab has 3.73. I wouldn't recommend going 3.73 if you're thinking about it esp with 33s. 4.10 is good.

Even sticker is burnt, all you need to do is look in engine bay for 2.2, then if its auto or 5spd.

Also they all are open end, none ever came with G80.

Check craigslist, classified here and make a ad in classified if someone wants to trade/sell rear end.

This is the second time I've heard of someone going back to SUA. Why do you want to do this? It seems like it's an easy and "safe" way to get ~5" of lift, and I think it would look better than some insanely long shackles (to make up for the lost lift) hanging from under the truck.

.
The only reason i may go back to sua is beacuse i may go back to stock coilson the front and the rear would be too high.

As he answered, other reason would be wheel hop, it'll be more wheel hop than it is with SUA.

Gotcha. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a safety issue or something like that I was missing.

Re: trying to lift a stock s10

No problem, although if you do ladder bar with leaf spring or 4 links then that will help eliminate the wheel hop with SOA which is pretty common.
