S10 Xtreme Going High?? Good or Bad...

I have know idea where to start. I purchased my 2002 S10 Xtreme when I was 20 and it sat for 2 years when I was deployed.I Love it, don't wanna get rid of it. Now five years later I wanna jack it up to a nice height of a zr2 or higher to fit some 32's or 30's. I don't even know if it is worth the time. Gotta take off the body kit, sell the 18's. Then find a kit to get a nice lift.

Also im going from the lower xtreme suspension so i would have to go even higher on the lift to fit those tire sizes... Not sure Sounds crazy to me.. I just want a bigger stance and a bad ass look.. black truck on sum black wheels sittin high would be so sweet...

Some Pics of my truck now
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2523808

Maybe I can trade....

What I would like it to look like. Not sure how high of a lift to get to achieve that stance..

http://www.zr2usa.com/members.php?id=263

I will not hit any hardcore off road terrain. Maybe trail if that. l live in NY just a little somethin for the snow. It's my only vehicle, my Honda was stolen last year, good thing it was a beater... Any Ideas would be ssssooooo great.... Thanks

Re: S10 Xtreme Going High?? Good or Bad...

i know what your goin through. my truck in the picture used to be an xtreme. body kit and all. i took that ugly shit off and lifted it. only thing i had to do was buy stock s10 or blazer leaf springs. then i bought moog springs and lift spindles in front. that gave me about 4.5in of lift in the front. then i bought a 2in lift shackle and AAL for the rear. my truck now sits level. and i put it on 31's on 15in rims. i absoultely love it. its so much more fun. i hated hitting bumps and curbs. im also installing the 2in body lift very soon. goin higher!

If it were me. I'd sell it and go in a different direction. You could buy a zr2 4x4 or pick up another regular 2wd s10 to lift etc. Let some one else enjoy the truck and do something new to you.

I agree. if you can sell the truck, that is gonna be your best bet. I would defianately go for a zr2. However if your upside down in the truck, like me, then go ahead and lift it. if you cant sell it you might as well be happy woth it. just my opinion

Re: S10 Xtreme Going High?? Good or Bad...

Yeah so much agree too. Its easy to get upside down in loans on these trucks. Especially if you got it new.
Anyways. Ah man a ZR2 would be sweet. Ive always wanted one. Before laid off and i was looking for one. All i could find was over priced or junk. My dealer ship had a 99 with rusted through rockers and rusty cab corners and wanted 10k for it. Thats what i was finding.

Re: S10 Xtreme Going High?? Good or Bad...

ya same with me i was looking to get rid of my truck about a year ago and look for a zr2. only thing was they were so damn expensive! nothing under 10k was in good shape. each and every one had over 60,000 miles on it. most that 30,000 or less were over 12k

id say do what youd like to do. When my truck was 2wd i had an 8'' lift on it and it sat bigger than zr2's when it was on 31's also

Re: S10 Xtreme Going High?? Good or Bad...

Sell the Xtreme. There's a lot of street guys out there that would buy it.
Take the money and find a 4wd or ZR2.
I got lucky on my ZR2. More like I ripped off the dealership because I knew they didn't know what they had.

As far as the ZR2, you can have a 4x4 and achieve the ZR2 stance or taller for less than the price difference between a decent ZR2 and a good 4x4.

Re: S10 Xtreme Going High?? Good or Bad...

i would lift it if it were me i like my 2wd better then a stock zr2 just looks better by far. now if you can get a already lifted zr2 that would be the a good bet too. i would take the body kit off as well selling it will help pay for a lift kit. those ricers will be all over it and those 17" rims will go quick i think on the market

Re: S10 Xtreme Going High?? Good or Bad...

Ok, going from "xtreme" low Rider level. I plan on buying 3" spindle, 3" coil, upper control arm, rear flip kit I believe gives 4" to sit level from what I have been reading, And replacement shocks. Will that do the job for the 31x10.5 that's the question?? Body lift in near future. Can't screw this up Im paying a shop to put this together for me. Expensive $$

Go with a 2" lift spring or a moog5664 coil. The three inch springs are going to ride horrible and have little to no down travel (droop) which will put alot of stress on the upper arm mount, possibly cracking or tearing the welds. Also don't waste the money on the short upper arm kit. The after market upper arm is just a tubular copy of the factory upper, other then maybe some strength there is no benefit from them. Only the long travel stuff helps correct the geometry of the front end when its lifted.

Notice the upper arms are identical...

All you need to clear 31's is the lift spindle and the moog coils, or skip the coil springs all together and use lift spindles and a body lift. Your stock control arms will be fine with up to a 2" lift spring.

So i can get away with 3" spindle the 2"moog coils. Now the rear just get the flip kit which Is called "SOA" let me guess Spring Over Axle"? and these parts will level it out?

I was thinking about a 2" body lift to go with this set up? Hope this narrows it down...

Re: S10 Xtreme Going High?? Good or Bad...

Correct, you can also buy Aim 2.5" coil, they are pretty good and not neck breaking like Rough Country.

HOWEVER, if you're able to sell/trade Xtreme for ZR2, I'd say do it, I wouldn't buy 4wd UNLESS it's ZR2 and/or SAS in the works.

In meantime, as said above. 3" spindle, fcs5664s (part number), 2" body lift. Then as for rear, 3" shackle from www.bajacustoms.com OR www.gmachineracing.com, otherwise SOA(Yes, you're correct, it's Spring Over Axle). You just need perch to weld on and move mount hole toward engine for driveshaft/e brake cable not to be stretched out much. But with this, it'll give you bad wheel hop until you build ladder bar.

You can go with 3.5" Aim coil IF you're able to afford www.bajacustoms.com UCA kit which is best uca choice out of any SA available.

And i have a 2" body lift on the way...
98-04 Chevy S10 GMC S15 Sonoma 2in Body Lift Kit #192

Hope I'm not leaving anything out...

I see that Sonoma springs are thicker then the Moog coils??
Going from Xtreme series coils to moog or these sonoma thicker coils??
Higher spring rate?

Wish me luck.... Install date October 20th

the shock from a ZR2 pickup should work in the back and for the front the stock shock will be fine, cause the stock suspension only has about 2" of droop in it.

Zr2 rear shocks. Ok, I'm replacing the zq8 drop leafs with stock s10 leafs with a 3" lift shackle. Think it will be good?? Worried about down travel and proper fit.??

The zr2 shocks will not fit on the front. You need 2wd shocks.

Any "lunchbox" locker will serve you well, Powertrax Lock-rite style, really is no need for a detroit style that replaces the carrier in a stock s10. I have a powertrax no-slip in my truck and love it. It's a smoother/quieter locker then a lockrite is, but at a higher cost. With the exception of rocks or really deep mud I can go anywhere my friends 4wd's can go. Sometimes I just have to stand on it climbing hills that they crawl up with ease. You'll be impressed the with difference a locker makes!

Anyone have any reviews? http://www.powerperformancemotorspor...&categoryId=17

Or waste of money?
i have 58K on the truck, ball joints still good??

Also too, got a set of stock leafs, installed the aal and was thinking to replace the bushings before install? Wouldn't hurt, or a waste of cash as well?

Re: S10 Xtreme Going High?? Good or Bad...

I would go with Bilstien shocks instead of skyjacker.

Go with Poly on uca, but no need to get poly on lca, stock is good.

New balljoint are IDEAL!, you need to use balljoint press on LCA and drill, grind or air hammer rivet on uca.

As long you get Extreme duty from Napa/McQuay Norris, PP, you are good to go.
