2wd zq8 lift?

It feels wrong to even ask this but I have been thing about lifting my truck a little and selling my 20's. I want to know whatI would have to do to get some hight. It is a zq8 so it has short coils, lower leafs, bigger swaybars and a 5th shock to prevent wheel hop and a two piece driveshaft. I would not want it to be a monster truck maybe as high as a stock zr2.

for the front you could just get 3.5" lift spindles and keep everything else the same.. or do a 2 or 3" lift coil which would get you up the lift spring amount + the amount a zq8 is lowered from factory(1 or 1.5"?) if that made sense.. sway bar should be fine being bigger as for the 5th shock in the rear, might have to lose it, you could do a flip kit in the rear. mine gave me 3" of lift.. what size tires would you like to fit?

Re: 2wd zq8 lift?

31 sounds good, 3.5 spindels + 1.5 lossing zq8 + 2'' over stock = 7 I like the sound of that. As far as the back the leafs are 1 or 1.5 drop I think. what do for springs. The most important thing that I need to know is what to do about the driveline and what else will I have to (brake lines ect.).

Re: 2wd zq8 lift?

not 31's! you might have to go get a 2" bl kit and those spindles and you would be close to zr2 hieght but since you have the zq8 you will probably have to get upper arms or lift coils to get you there. if you use lift coils don't go over 2" it will kill your front. unless you get both the coils and upper control arms. then you will be ok

Re: 2wd zq8 lift?

i say you put 3" lift coils with the upper arms, and 2" body lift and run 32's.. i love the way mine sits. isnt super high but stands out around here compared to all the stock blazers lol.. my blazers roof is maybe a hair higher than stock f-250's..

Re: 2wd zq8 lift?

ok to clear it all up this is what you need in order to fit 31's with out trimming... 3" spindle, 2" coils, rear axle flip (gives you 5-5.5" not 3")

and the end result

Although he has a zq8 which is lower than a stock s10 all ready. I think they said what? 1.5" lower? correct me if i am wrong. that means he might have to get a body lift to clear the extra room he will need or upper control arms...his choice, that is if he still wants to lift it after hearing all this....lol

Re: 2wd zq8 lift?

If I would do what bobby did I would sit the same as he does. The 2'' coils would give me 3.5 because it would lift 2'' and get rid of that 1.5 zq8 drop.
Hay bobby that is awsome thing of it as a x-cab and you will see what I see in my head.

The only thing that has not been clear with me is what do I have to do about the drivetrain because I have a 2pc. shaft.

Re: 2wd zq8 lift?

okay...

i kinda noticed this...

if the zq8 is 1.5" shorter already...

does that mean that his front spindle is 1.5" shorter, or the spring is 1.5" shorter than reg?

likewise with the back.

because...if that's the case, if he goes with a 3.5" spindle, it'll actually give him 4.5", or 2" coils will actually give him a 3" lift...

either/or, not both.

just figured i'd throw that up in the air.

he gets his 1.5" drop up front from the coils.. and in the rear i think they basically pulled a leaf from the factory to get the drop.

Re: 2wd zq8 lift?

so yeah, if you get the 2" lift coils, it'll actually throw you up 3" compared to us reg guys.

is this statement correct or incorrect?

Re: 2wd zq8 lift?

personnelly I'd leave it Zq8 lol, they handle the road really nice compared to a zr2. But if you decide to lift it a limited slip will be fun, it's possible your truck already has the G80 RPO code.

Good luck

Re: 2wd zq8 lift?

Since he has a zq8, it comes 1"-1.5"s lower than stock....he would have to get it up 1.5"s just to get it looking like a stock s10, height wise.

Re: 2wd zq8 lift?

correct but if you lifted it you would be replacing all the parts (in the front anyway) that lower the truck 1.5"

Re: 2wd zq8 lift?

I lifted a ZQ8 a while back. I used Fabtech spindles and shackles, and stock LS springs all around with 235/75's. Turned out pretty good. I had no driveshaft issues.

Re: 2wd zq8 lift?

the zq8 gets its lowerness from the front springs, and the leaf spring package had 3+overload..... if you put the lift spindles up front with 2inch lift springs it will lift u 5 from stock, 6.5-7 from "ZQ8".

The rear, i think u can flip the leaf, or mabey get schakles if u want to get higher.

I have a couple more somewhere, I'll look.

I think the backspace on those wheels is 4.75", they are 15x8's. They don't rub at all. But I did trim a tiny bit off of the front fenders as a precautionary measure so that they wouldn't cut into the tires if they ever did make contact while turning.

I pulled the side skirts off of the xtreme package, and a 3 pound hammer to the corners. 9 at night at my buddies shop puttin the tires on and just wanted it done. Next day trimed the fronts of the skirts, and put them back on. Covers the corners up nicely.

that's the look I want I am still going to look around for a blazer or 4x4 but If I dont I am going to sell my wheels and do spindels, coils and arms and a flip kit. Is there anything else I would need or want to do like steering link drops or pinion shims out back.
