Xtreme Blazer Swap

Well guys ive been wanting to do this for quite a while now, i had taught about putting a 5.3 into my blazer since i was in highschool and ppl would say it didnt fit and so forth, until i saw black x s10 on youtube thats when i started getting more into it, ive been reading around and i understand some stuff and some i still need more knowledge on, like the fuel filter, returnless or not, which way to go, and what does the ls6 intake have compared to the truck....
for right now i just bought a 5.3 with 50xxx miles, i still need to check if its a 5.3 tho haha, but ill open it up when i go home on july 2nd..
i just finished ordering the lh8 alpha pan, which ive seen theres no modification to the xmember on blazers, correct me if im wrong....
i wanted more space and was thinking of buying the ls2 water pump, but im confused to what else id have to change to go that route, or what would you guys recommend i buy, the engine has no water pump so i need one...
i am going to have to make a call to jared to see if he can help me out a lil, but work doesnt give me much time right now, btw im working in crystal river florida, anyone with a lsx in the area???

ohh and itll be going into my 2001 Xtreme Blazer, will be replacing my 4.3 5 speed, roughly around 113k miles

5.3 = 500$
lh8 pan= 206$

just getting started with the parts, and i can use all the help possible,

Re: Xtreme Blazer Swap

LS6/LS2 accessories will allow more room between the front of the engine and radiator/fans. LS6 the route I'm going.

If you shop around you should be able to buy the LH8 pan kit about $50 cheaper then that. Last time I looked it only listed for $180

I'm guessing that if you don't have a water pump, you probably dont have any of the brackets or accessorys. If that's the case, just buy the ls2 accessory kit, and then add the waterpump and crank pulley. Since you're doing a blazer, you shouldn't have much trouble getting the LS2 AC compressor to fit.

nothing would have to be shifted, the whole kit is just bolt on.

water pump is the only one i dont have, it came with the harness, alternator, ps pump, ac compressor, but how much is that kit??? any part numbers??

so if i put the ls2 ac compressor, i dont have to buy the high mount bracket??

Re: Xtreme Blazer Swap

hey man nice blazer. Things to watch out for on the blazers is the A/C box because the mounts for the motor are positioned higher than the S10 truck mounts. The A/C box runs into the head but if you position the motor further forward then you don't have that problem but the Trans crossmember needs to be moved forward. On the fuel pressure regulator/filter set up i went with the S10 flex fuel filter. The LS2/LS7 vette accessories part # 19155067 if you run this front drive set up you need the water pump Part# 89018052 its a water pump kit i'm havin trouble finding the part # i think this is all correct the harmonic balancer part # is 12599862

Re: Xtreme Blazer Swap

If you search for my swap "beginning of" or something you'll see where you need to cut for the a/c box. Also, you'll need a slight massaging of the tranny tunnel possibly depending on the transmission you go with. Your stock tranny will only last about 5000 miles....

30 bucks extra for the water pump is a steal. I'd contact them first though just to find out exactly what is included (their description seems a little short). Also, don't forget shipping cost.

I've got a used truck waterpump I'd let you have for $40 shipped.

Re: Xtreme Blazer Swap

Ah, going with the auto, well you have a few choices. I recommend the s10 4L60E style and using the adapter plate, it will move the tranny a smidge closer to the engine and give you more room. The ls style bell housing is bigger and input shaft longer.

You would be good with that pulley...it has higher retaining walls that the ASP pulley but its also a couple of pounds heavier...also cheaper than the ASP pulley...

Re: Xtreme Blazer Swap

This is the LS2 harmonic balancer its sits a half of an inch inside the pulley

this is a truck harmonic balancer and a LS1 vette balancer right next to each other

sorry i don't think the LS2 accessories will work with that underdrive pulley but check on it... i read the website it says that it works on both but clearly couldn't as you can see

Re: Xtreme Blazer Swap

what accessories did you run they will all bolt up but they will not have the same distance from the motor and with this case if you ran the LS1 balancer and LS2 accessories it may run till you rev it up and it will want to throw the belt and the belt will wear unevenly. There has to be a difference

The headers on top are headman hustler headers with two primaries that run outside the frame.

The mid length headers above are sold at BRP perfromance i beleve these are also hedman hustler headers

You have the sanderson shorties

and CPW made some long tubes i just don't know if he still does he might for the right price

I dunno about the tires denali_on_26's ran this setup he said his tires were a 20x8.5 up front and cleared as far as heat on the tires don't know i dont think they are for street use the wheels he ran made a difference he had corvette offset so i think that might have helped.. I think you can get them for around $450 uncoated of course.

Re: Xtreme Blazer Swap

Go with a 2.2 S10 flex fuel filter w/built in regulator or C5 Corvette filter w/built in regulator. They're both the same with different part numbers I think.

You're also going to need some Russell GM quick disconnect to -6AN adapter fittings in 5/16" and 3/8"

Re: Xtreme Blazer Swap

technically its not a returnless style the LS1 powered F-Bodys have a regulator its just right at the top of the tank. I was reading awhile back and i remember black X saying that the outside hook up was the inlet and the middle one was the return which i thought was weird but if he said thats how it works then i would bet money that, thats the way it goes. I think i'm going to get enough of the russel fittings to run braided stanless the whole way.

Re: Xtreme Blazer Swap

hey man i was in the process of putting my LS2 harmonic balancer on and found out it doesn't fit did you say that the harmonic balancer you got was for a LS1 corvette cuz i guess i'm going to have to buy one and hopefully they will return it maybe maybe not. I read threw that how to rebuild LS handbook and it says that some crank snouts are different so i think the LS2 crank snout must be longer cuz the pan i'm using is off of a LS2 vette and the blocks are basically the same dimensions so i think thats whats up with that. Just let me know that would be awesome.
