Re: Which truck to start with.
Thanks for the quick replies. Yeah the rearend will be replaced, so that is not a huge problem. Did the 4L60 come with the 4.3 and the 2.2? Will the factory gauges be able to work with either? I'm going to try and keep as stock looking as possible.

motor mounts in the v6 trucks are stronger then the 4cylnders i believe if you are putting in a 5.3.

Just find one with a blown engine. You can get those real cheap if you find one.

Re: Which truck to start with.
I believe that if you go with the 4L60E that it would fit and would work with the 5.3L. but the 4L80E is twice as tough as the 4L60E. is the truck you going to get going to be a 2wd or a 4wd?

Re: Which truck to start with.
the motor mounts dont matter between a v6 and a 4 cyl cause you have to use conversion mounts anyways. In my opinion you should start with a 4 cyl cause you can buy them cheaper. Now depending on if you want to go auto or manual is up to you. The 4l60 will work for a stock 5.3. I started out with a 99 s10 with a 4cly 5speed and i swaped in a 5.3 w/ a t56 6speed out of a camaro and i was able to use the stock clutch lines and slave cylinder. Real easy swap. If you want to use the stock gauges then give current performance a ring. They sponser this forum and if you look at the sticky above it will give you alot of info. search search search.
