Which heads are best for port & polish?

I have the 706 heads on my 04/5.3,this winter I'm going to have the heads port & polished and have the intake port matched also.Should I look for another set of heads to get this done,or would the 706 heads be good enough?Mike

Re: Witch heads are best for port & polish?

There are better heads than those. Personally I would try to get a set of #243s or #799s

Do you have a budget?

There are better heads, but those are fine for the 5.3.

What are your power goals?

You will NEVER get 75hp on a P&P on your truck. The best aftermarket heads that are $2500+ heads give you 30-40hp. Tell him youll take him up on it. Have him pay for everything up front, and when you see 75hp then youll pay him back 100%. If I could make 75hp gains on a stock set of heads, I would quit my job and sit at home and port heads all day. Id have more money than I knew what to do with, so Id then buy a CNC machine to do my dirty work for me so I didnt have to work so hard anymore.....sounds exactly like the story of everyones CNC heads, huh?

Dont pay for a port match either, it doesnt do anything but make your wallet lighter. Put a few hundred dollars towards a good intake! Hopefully you have an LS6 or FAST?

243/799 heads flow better but have a slightly bigger combustion chamber, typically good for 15-20hp, and now come stock on 2007+ 4.8Ls/5.3Ls. Its part of why their power rating went from 295hp to 310hp
