Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"
Heres a little mine writeup I did about my fullsize hydroboost install, thought id post it here.
Well I was spurred to attempt this mainly because my brake booster went bad and I drove the truck with no power assisted brakes almost getting me killed many times. When I parted out the donor truck I got my 5.3 from I noticed it was equipped with a hydroboost unit. I didnt care to grab it but my dad told me those are rare so I did, and boy am I glad I did. This weekend I blindly tore into my truck to see if this thing would even fit. I started by pulling the old brake booster out which was surprisingly easy thanks to long extensions and u-joints. ![]() Once I got the booster out to compare, I was shocked to see that the plunger rod that attaches to the pedal was the EXACT same length as the one on the hydroboost. ![]() I then made a templated of cardboard to mark where all the stud holes would need to be drilled on the firewall ![]() I had to hammer one spot on the firewall flat, not so pretty but it won't be visisble once installed ![]() I then used the template to mark my holes and got to drilling, be sure to go slow not to wear the bit out because the metal is triple thick in some places. ![]() The hydroboost unit slid right into place, I didnt have modify the big hole in the center, I removed the yukon master cylinder because it is too tall and wouldn't clear the hood. ![]() After that I attached the plunger rod inside the truck and secured the unit in it's holes in their new locations. The s10 master cylinder will bolt right to the hydroboost unit with no problem so that solved my hood clearance issue. I also hooked up the lines the go to the hydroboost unit. ![]() Here you can see the line configuration. All it is, is one high pressure hose running from the back of the ps pump to the hydro unit. One line from the hydro unit to the high pressure port on the steering box. You can leave your stock return line from the ps pump to the box. As you can see in the pic, my ps pump has a drain provision for the hydro units return line, this is beause my engine/accessories/ and hydro unit all came from the same truck. Chances are your truck won't have this, you can simply T into the factory return line and it will work just fine. No modifications needed to be made to any of the high pressure lines, they all fit like the were made for it. ![]() Doing the hydroboost swap also allowed me to mount my rear coil that is always an issue for us LS swap guys, I now have plenty of room there. The truck stops faster than anything and is at a complete stop the second you tap the pedal, I couldn't be happier. This was all surprisingly easy and straight forward, no need to get charged an arm and a leg for an astro unit or a custom one. I got everything from an 05 4wd yukon, I did this because I had it all for free but if you come across a fullsize hydro system don't pass it up! |

Damn good looking truck and swap! I didn't see anywhere if you used the Yukon wiring harness or not? I'm doing my research now on swaping an LSx 6.0l int omy track duty S10. Again, nice ride!

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"
Any more work done on that turbo piping? Another super nice job on the brakes. You can tell you were raised around cars. I have a stepson your age and getting him to change his oil is a big step for him. At least he is learning now.

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"
this is probably a stupid question, but after you install the hydroboost, youll need to add fluid again right? does that system need to be bleed somehow? does the master cylinder need to be bleed also, or does it just get hung to the side and bolted to the new booster like nothing happened? ive never taken one off before...

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"
the hydro boosted gets bleed by turning the steering lock to lock and you have to be adding fluid

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"
sorry, probably a bit vague of a question. i was not sure if there was any fluid that was lost when you unbolt the S10 master cylinder from the stock vacuum booster.

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"
That is super sweet. I have heard good and bad on the Megasquirt, but it looks like way too much for me. I get a little short tempered with confusing programing for cars. Back when Crane first introduced the Intercepter for the Mustang, I put the wrong value in the wrong spot, and it added a bunch of timing in the motor and ended up cooking it. I have not used a tuner since then, but thinking about getting the HP after my swap. It looks much more straight forward. Keep us informed on your project.

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"
I have decided to go a different route for now and shave/repaint my truck before I go back to school in jan. It will be much cheaper since my dad owns a body shop. I have already started shaving and modifying my new tailgate which is why the truck doesnt have one in a few of the pics. That progress will be seen here shortly as im getting ready to tear her down for a while. In the mean time, I thought I would take the oppritunity to post some of the latest pics in this thread. ![]() ![]() ![]() When I took her to indian rocks beach. This color/truck and the beach are a match made in heaven.lol ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I like taking pics.lol |
