The 95 LS10 "green machine"

Ok, this project has been under way for a while but I finally found some time to make a project thread so here it goes. It started with a 95 S10 x cab, 4.3 5 speed I picked up for $900. Pretty stripped down and the previous owner(s) dogged it out pretty bad so the truck is a project wether I like it or not.lol

I fixed the front end damage

I drove the truck for the rest of my senior year in high school and I couldn't stand the lack of power and poor fuel economy of the TBI 4.3. Soon after I got a lead on a 5.3/4wd 4l60E from an 05 yukon. The truck was completly totaled, the only thing good on it was the drive train, the truck was towed to our shop in Tampa and I pulled the lump out, loaded it in the dime and brought it back to my house in Brooksville The engine only has 5k on it which is killer, the oil was still bright yellow inside the valve cover when I look

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"

When I got the engine hom I couldn't believe how nasty it was on the out side especially for an 05 but spotless on the inside. Turns out the truck was from Canada. It even has a factory block heater on it which is cool. How it made it down to FL I have no idea

I did some intense cleaning, I repainted the block ans sadblasted the oil pan, timing cover and acssesories. My dad gave me his LS6 intake he ditched from his build.

I got a nice 03 2wd LS1 4L60e for this project, I traded the 4wd 4L60E in for another 2wd unit. I bought a high performance rebuild kit for my second one, when the stock first one takes a shit. I want to get maybe a 3k stall too in the future. I talked to Jared at CP wiring and he said the harness should be done hopefully by next week. Once I get that in then I can drop this bastard in. This is going to be one nice DD

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"

I am running the truck accesories and the same billet relocator as you, can you tell me the part # / length of your serp belt?

I was also going to run an LS1 water pump VS. the L92. Can you tell me why your running the L92 instead of the car pump? Are you going to run a LS1 radiator or the 4.3L one with this setup?

I'd also be very interested in exactly how your setting up your fuel system seeing as we have pretty much the same setup.

Looks like your getting there and it is exciting to see, you'll have to post a vid! I can't wait to get started on mine, 2.2 is life in the slow lane :/

Thank you,

Thanks, I bought the belt and relocator from tunerheadquarters.com they have the right belt to match but 'll try and get the part number when i get home. I tried the LS1 pump the first time. I would not reccomend using it. because it brings the water neck super close to the drive belt when usin g the relocator to where it might rub and the pulley is slid too far back to use with the truck accessories so you would have to slide the pulley out to line up which takes one hell of a crazy press to get it off, plus your pulley is only halfway on the shaft. After all this trouble you could have just bought the L92 pump which is a direct bolt on and everything lines up perfect so as far as im concerned it's the only way to go. As for the rad I was gonna use the 4.3 setup, but then again I will be sitting in Tampa Florida 110 degee heat in traffic with the AC on, so the vette rad might be better, I'll just have to see. I have the filter regulator already but I really dont want to buy 4 of those AN quick connectors at $18 a piece so I might just get the lines barbed and run regualr fuel hose instead.

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"

I forgot to order the belt with so I would really appreciate it if you could get me that length / part number, thank you!

The L92 water pump PN# 12600767 is what I got, is that what you ordered? Is that for a 2007 Silverado?

The only problem I see is by me running the 4.3L radiator or any one basically with the top left inlet, I am wondering if it will be a pain to route the upper hose over there and where to route the intake.

I'll be very interested to see what you end up doing and wish you the best of luck, thanks for all the great pics and write up!

So you used the truck pan on that right? Will you post a pic from the front of the truck so I can see how it sits, if it is low or not? Also, what relocator kit are you using from tunnerheadquarters? I could not find anything in their site? Looks Great! Keep up the great work!

Thanks, crap I forgot my stupid camera again. I will bring it tommorrow for sure. Im doing the swap 50 miles awy from home in tampa Yes I did use the truck pan. I currently have a 3" drop on the front. (2" spindles, 1" springs) on stock tires and there is definitly nothing to worry about, it does hang down some, but as long as your not bagging it you should be alright, im deff going to lower mine more, 3" does nothing for these trucks. As for the relocator..I just went to their website and they dont seem to list it anymore. That sucks, it is a really nice peice and you might find one used. Th P/N for the correct belt is listed in this thread. As said, more pics are coming so stay tuned

Just a reliable, powerful DD that starts up every morining without bitching and you dont have to idle down before shutting off, and have a smooth powerband. (unlike my turbo cars ) I would like to at least break in to mid 12 territory and whatever it puts down at the wheels is fine as long as it's fast.lol

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"

Ooooook. Im still waiting on various bs to show up for the truck so I can get it going. I ordered a new rad support cuz the old one had bad salt damge. got the eternal tranny cooler lines and fittings work out and filled it with mobil 1 atf, the truck goes back and forth without a hitch. Still need to send the ECU into J to have it reprogrammed for cable TB. In the mean time, here are some pics...

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"

Update!!!: So I got the truck all put back together for the most part and it runs and moves under its own power. All thats lacking now is an exhaust and ecu flash, I recently sourced a 99-02 ecu so I will be sending that one out instead. Also installed a new rad support (the old one had major salt damage), new vette rad, and spal twin e-fans and the rest is misc stuff.
I want to do a few more things to the grille before I put it back in.

Why yes it is factory #'s matching 409 425 horse hooked to a muncie 4 speed. Its for our 63' impala show car thats been in the works. Frame and all has been done and the body is on the rotisserie. I'll try and get more pics of that later, its very nice.

Congrats on the "Green Machine"! Looks real nice!

More pics of the 409 would be great, too. Did you see the recent "Horsepower" episode on "Powerblock" where they rebuilt a 409? I think that it made about 485 HP! Interesting stuff!

So with the vette radiator in it, why does the upper hose route so long? It seems like it should be really short. Also, what did you use on the trans x member? That is really nice!

The vette rad changes little in the hose length, it is a good bit narrower than the 4.3 rad but the water neck on the L92 pump is further away and goes straight out to the side so it kinda makes it long. The upper hose is just one from an 05 5.3 yukon. The tranny x member is brand new from GM, this truck used to be a 5 speed and I couldnt find one used so I just bought it new from GM

Yes I did. It was quite sick, Lamar Walden has taken incredible strides toward bring these engines back and making modern parts for them. obviously its all ut together and in the frame now, but I was too lazy to take more pics. The car its going in will be a california frame non-SS 2 door bare bones impala, NO options, no ac, no power brakes, no radio no ANYTHING. All it has is the highest hp 409 availible, 4:11 posi, muncie 4 speed, tach cluster, the wide 409 steelies painted car color with little dog dish hubcaps. Here are some old pics....

Awesome motor!

I can't believe those exhaust manifolds. They look like cast iron headers!

Thanks!

So what is that x member for? My 94 4l60 s10 x member doesn't look anything like that.

It's not a x-member, It's a complete frame. That's the way GM framed their cars back in the 60s. The "X" in the center, plus the driveshaft made for a tall tunnel down the center of the floorpan.

I know, they changed x members on these trucks about a hundred times just to do the same thing. Getting the right one was the biggest fiasco of my life. I believe mine is for an 02 S10 4.3 auto

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"

ooooookkkkkay. So the truck is like 97% done, I been working on finshing my exhaust which is comprised of 2.5" true duals, an x-pipe and 2 flowmaster delta 40's....Oh and did I mention I hate sanderson shorties? I still need some kind of angled 4" pie for the intake but im having a hard time finding anything like that so if anyone knows where to get some id appreciate it. Anyway, I took the first idle vid of the truck with the V8, its still open headers at the moment.lol..more to come. enjoy!

I'm sure you can find all types of angle silicone tubing for your intake where ever they sell turbo kits, tubing ect... I'm sure they will have better transition from straight to curve than the above link. just an idea

Intakehoses.com has just about anything you need, but the above link is for very tight areas where you can't use the typical 90* elbows

Thanks buddy. Good luck with your build. I will try not to get myself killed in this thing As for the intake. Im looking for some kido of plastic or aluminum 4" intake hard pipe the will slide into my MAF sensor and turn down for the cone filter.

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"

K so I been trying to drive the truck but it has been doing the strangest thing and I would like to know if anyone could help me figure it out. When I first start it it idles perfectly revs perfectly and pulls like a mad man. But as soon as the temp starts to come up around running temp you can hear the engine start to break up and sputter and the idle drops lower and lower by the second till it baisically shuts off on its own. This is the weird part, I pulled all the plugs out and all 4 on the passenger side bank were black and fouled out and the 4 on the drivers side were just fine. I have been over the whole system many times and found no vacuum leaks. Im starting to think I installed the incorrect 02 sensors or my computer still thinks the truck has emissions equipment. I can stand behind the dual exhaust and feel the presures changing constantly in each pipe, and I have an x pipe too. So anyone who can chime in and tell me what they think it might be would be a savior. thanks

Re: The 95 LS10 "green machine"

I had a very similiar problem w/mine when i first ran it except it was the driver side bank of cylinders that did almost excatly what you are describing, it turned out after checking the MAF sensor, wiring and pretty much everything else that the O2 sensor on that side was junk, got a new one and bam-fixed. what kinda (vehicle model)O2's are u running?

Ok thanks. Im running these lame ass denso o2 sensors that I bought new, but I don't think they're the right ones. They fit the plug but I had to cut a slit on one half of the male part because it wouldnt fit. They looked like the exact fit ones other than that little protruding plastic tooth that I had to modify but I guess im just gonna buy new ones. Do you know a part number or anything that would get me the sensors with the correct plug using a CPW harness? They make them with so many different plugs on them.lol
